Hmmmmmmm, I usually seek out unusual beers to drink. But I always thought I fit the "beer snob" description for the most part. Maybe I'm just a Beer Snob Rookie. I guess I gotta find some hipsters. Guess I gotta figure out just what a hipster is.

I like the exaggerations like:
"____________ would have to be on the list of one of the worst beers on the market today"

I keeping with the theme of the thread, I went and had the Abita English Mild cask beer last night, and it was not good at all. Swing and a miss from Abita!
ETA: It was better than Jockamo.

There is a lot of pretentious douchebaggery going on in here. I like all of the craft beers that the beer snobs are discussing but I don't feel the need to belittle a local company and the masses that consume it.
I love bringing people into the fold of better craft beers but heavy critique does not usually work. Beer snobs can be like annoying hipsters - they seek out unusual beers to talk about with other hipsters and belittle the masses that haven't figured it out.
Abita helps people transistion from Bud/Miller to crafts and that is a good thing. Local businees that supports the community is also a good thing.
I'm not belittling them, I'm offering my opinion. It's frustrating to me, that Abita has stood by and made the same few beers for so long with little to no innovation. They have so many resources at their disposal, that it's tough to see them stay in neutral while ambitious upstarts continue to pass them by in quality of beer.
They could go a long way towards shutting me up if they would start bottling their Select lineup. They have the resources to do this, so I don't know why they don't.

I agree completely in your assessment.

one of the best things about Abita (and Saint Arnold here in Texas) is that you can use the "locally brewed" aspect of the beer to get folks that would otherwise not venture into crafts to try it
They have nice, safe beers and serve as a gateway

Haven't read all 7 pages and IDGAF what you think of my opinion but really... Who gives a flying frick what one person thinks about another person's favored beer? It's just that! One person favors it over another. Someone not liking a beer doesn't mean that particular brewery sucks or the beer sucks. It just means that person doesn't like it. No one's taste buds are the same and no two average beer drinkers will get the same taste from a beer. It's all in what you like.
To those of you who insist on putting down another man for drinking a beer, get the sand out of your vaginas and lighten up. Are his tastebuds in your mouth? I didn't think so... (unless you happen to favor another man's tongue in your mouth too, but in that case we can understand why you're such a douche at that point).
To all my other beer fans who could care less what another man thinks of their beers, here's to you!
(I'm cdaniel76. I drink Abita Strawberry whenever I can and I approve this message)

yeah, I think I tried to get it across that I don't mind their beers for the most part but I wish they went a little more out there sometimes.

One of Abita's brewers was at a seminar at Top of the Hops and one of the things he was talking about was how they're somewhat limited on the styles of beers they can produce because of their water supply (abita springs). It doesn't lend itself well to some styles of beers and this is likely part of the reasoning as to why you don't see them experimenting too much.
They've found their niche and it works for them. Don't blame a brewery or their beer because YOU don't like it, is all I'm saying... (not you s14, just "you" in general)

Yes they are, so is sam adams. Abita is the 15th largest craft brewery, i believe.

I don't understand why people have their noses up the asses of Sam Adams.
For their size, they actually try to put out new brews every year. You don't normally see that. They have quite a multitude of selections. Especially their new barrel room collection, and their batch series. Barrel Room has been pretty tasty so far. I've had New World and the stout. Both very good. Their Fat Jack Pumpkin Ale is pretty good too. I appreciate that despite how big they have grown, they still try to make new brews.

Abita is full of "douchebaggery", like the time they claim they invented and own "pub crawls", and sent someone a cease and desist for a charity pub crawl. Abita deserves all criticisms they get
