re: Distilling and Aging Bourbon - Recs needed - Fratastic423
Did you finally distill one that taste good? What did you do?
Hypothetically yes. If one was to produce a quality distilled product, you have to pay attention to the mash and how that ferments and get a quality alcoholic product before putting it through the still. Sanitation ...
Have you checked your hydrometer vs water to make sure it isn't cracked?
I will check again last night because you have put doubt in my mind but I have checked it recently and it was still calibrated. I am going to feel like a jack arse if that is the problem. However, it has...

re: Homebrewing: In-Process Thread - Fratastic423
My last sour project has gone off the deep end and I am confident will never result in anything drinkable. If y'all remember I brewed a simple beer with no hops, tossed in Gigayeast Lacto after brewing, then added a Brett starter a few days later. No drop in OG after 3 weeks. Beer was getting rea...

re: Homebrewing: In-Process Thread - Fratastic423
I've been doing the cold sparge recently due to Brulosophy and really haven't seen any difference in the end product. It takes a little longer to get to the boil since the temp of the wort is lower. But that isn't a big issue. ...

re: Delete - Fratastic423
I drove by Independence park in town last week and I saw two coaches using short pool noodles with their young team. The kids were dribbling around in a large box and having to avoid the pool noodles that the coaches were waiving at them. I thought that was a pretty interesting method to teach sha...
Funny, I think it's really good, but won't be surprised if it doesn't score well (not to style, too many hops, not enough malt balance, etc.).
That is the exact opposite of why I was thinking yours would do better than mine. Mine is much more balanced than I was hoping for. And t...

re: Homebrewing: In-Process Thread - Fratastic423
I ended up adding the Cal Ale slurry to the lactic sour beer last night. Hopefully I will see some activity when I get home after work today. I am going to be pretty pissed if I spent that much money on yeast and this beer is a bust. ...

re: Homebrewing: In-Process Thread - Fratastic423
My quick sour is starting to be a disaster of an experiment. U pitched lactose, it took off. I then pitched the brett starter and it looked like fermentation got going. Checked the gravity today, 3 weeks after pitching brett, still sitting at 1030. Almost too tart from the lacto going at it alone. ...

re: Key West craft beer - Fratastic423
There are 3 breweries on key West: Kellys, bone island, and waterfront. Kellys and bone island are small tiny places. Waterfront is a brand new massive facility that is really corporate funded. The beers at all are pretty good, nothing world changing. Waterfront and Kellys are both brewpubs with lot...
