What are you doing this weekend, sorry to slightly hijack thread.

Wedding Saturday night, recording a few radio show episodes Sunday before the Super Bowl... that's all I've got planned.

Sounds good. Wife is out of town this weekend so i will be doing some beer stuff around the house I believe. I want to brew a Belgian Stout for Zapp's. Also I am redoing my gas system on the kegerator. Big weekend plans for a bachelor.

Good People is excellent as well. I'm considering heading to Birminghamm for a race in May just so I can bring some of that (as well as SweetWater & Terrapin) back with me.

Do it. Go to J Clydes and Highland package. Birmingham is a pretty cool place if you ask me.

I put the praline dubbel in secondary with the last 1/2 pound of pecans last night.

What I REALLY need to do Saturday during the day is borrow a truck and go get that freezer I have waiting on me so I can get mine set up.

Karbach and No Label are both on that level.

Karbach started out slow on Saturday, but the gf and I got there right at noon when they started pouring. You get four tastings, typical, and by 1 it was packed. We left around 1:30 and there were easily 200 people in there, probably closer to 400.

Imagine if these people could open for tastings or sell growler fills every evening, or even just 2-3 more per week. It might thin the crowds out slightly on Saturdays, but in the end they'd sell a lot more beer.

on second thought, since I'm not close enough to participate in that, I'd rather them bottle more

I forget which law or which state was causing issues with beer labeling. Whichever one prevents putting the ABV on the bottles...saying something about how it might influence people to get drunk faster or something like that.

To me that affects craft brewers because they're not allowed to print ABV on the bottles. (they like to provide as much information as possible on their bottles)

Now BL Platinum comes out with 6.0% in freaking BOLD font as if it is their main selling point and they're allowed to do that.

Sorry for the rant.

A little long winded if you ask me.

Texas, for one. You could not advertise the ABV. The Jester King v TABC ruling changed that, and the TABC is trying to find ways to go about a new method. Open The Taps has a good article here about it

Many states do allow it already, but that particular packaging would not have been allowed in Texas before the ruling

This would be the weekend to convince me to help out. No other plans really.

My dad has some pecans soaking in vodka, going to see how well the extract concept works out.

Yeah, I figured it was Texas. Just wasn't completely sure.
Hell I think it should be REQUIRED. Sometimes a 10% beer can really mask its ABV.

I found that the beer racked on the pecans did very little in the end. Pecan Extract worked wonders though especially in aroma. Over time my praline beer slowly lost the aroma though which was sad because around 3 months it was silky smooth.

Noted. Just trying things out... the first batch I did a pound of pecans in the full boil. I didn't find that it had as much pecan flavor as I would like, especially on the nose, so I added another half pound at the 5-minute mark and then about a quarter pound to secondary. Was supposed to be another half pound, but the bag ripped and whoops...

I used some brown malt to pull out some more of the nutty flavor. But my praline was a brown ale not a dubbel. I did kinda wonder if I could have ground the pecan up a little and used it in the mash.

We do not. I am sure that if you put a call out to the club someone would volunteer theirs.

I'm still doing extract at home, but I did some steeping on that one and thought about adding ground pecan to the grain bill. I have all the ingredient to run another batch so that might be something I consider.
