Mortgage, Insurance, Property Tax = ~20%
By this time next year, ~15%. Got some "guaranteed" raises on the horizon

4BR House - 2200 SQFT in Pville

Some of these greater than 3000 sqft houses in this thread makes me jealous of the price per sqft my friends in texas pay.

~15% of gross after rent and utilities. My expenses are roughly rent, car, and food... Otherwise I put it in savings.

Or you live in a town of 150 people.

$32.93/sq foot for my house. Built in 1966.

We have done some upgrades since we moved in that would move that to $35.85/sq foot.

I did omit property taxes which are paid twice a year in Virginia. They run about $7000 a year. I shudder to think what areas have a $20k property tax bill because applying northern Virginia values to those areas would probably make our property tax bill astronomic.

There are areas from where I just moved with tax bills of $20,000. Iowa town with population of 14,000. It's astonishing.

A little over 9%, 1600 sqft in NW Arky.

We are bucking the trend and living simply, not trading up as income increases.
