Curious to see what % of gross annual income people are paying for rent/mortgage, as I am moving soon and my rent is going to be a good bit higher.

Interested to see if I am spending more or less compared to others.

% of gross annual income going to rent : 18.5%

I calculate my monthly budget based on take home pay. Mortgage including escrows for tax/insurance is around 22%. Sometimes feels like it is too high of a % though.

about 23% to rent in Boston, MA. Rent is insane here though... and buying is even worse.

18% in NYC. Sucks but that is life. Now if you include bonus/expense reimbursement which is on the generous side it is probably closer to 15%.

With numbers that low, I have to assume you put down a huge downpayment which skews the numbers significantly.

You'd have to have a 200k salary and a $420/mo note on a small house for that.

Seriously, you need to take out a mortgage while you still can at these rates.

I think you're doing this wrong... its percentage on Monthly gross, not annual.
