22% of net, which makes more sense for comparison across states.
Holly Springs, NC
2300 sqft 4br/3ba
Good news is my home value has increased 15% in just the 2 years since we purchased. (independent and county appraisals)

I've got 11% in rent in BR. Going to be buying a house in the near future, which will put me around 17-18%

South Louisiana, pay about 11.5% (including escrow) of gross for wife and I. I don't want to be house poor, I enjoy doing other things with my money (like spending some and saving some)

13.7% of gross annual income (mortgage, insurance, taxes)
11.1% for just mortgage
4 bed, 2 bath
Broussard (Lafayette Parish)
Plan to sell and build "forever" home in about 2-3 years. Plan is to have that number around 10% with sale proceeds and additional down payment.

I pay 15.75% gross on the house. Insurance/Taxes is about 40% of that in south Mississippi.

My rent for 2015 was 12% of gross annual income. Rent for 2016 is looking like to be 11.4%. My rent is going up but my wife just got a job, which is helping considerably versus her in grad school.
