Wanted white Quartz, until I got a sample and tested w/mustard, ketchup, and blue food dye. No way, stained, stained, stained. Now I'm checking into granite and don't like the patterns, to me most of it looks like dog vomit. I'm thinking about a black now, but afraid to see the smears and streaks.
I have a brushed aluminum backsplash that I want to use.

Any advice or input?

(don't know how to post pics)

Looks like dog vomit?

You want something that absolutely won't smear, streak, stain, etch, or scratch and something that doesn't look like dog vomit?

I've got nothing.

Formica is your answer

Or that old DuPont Corian...if they still make that stuff. I think you can just buff that shite out.

Concrete or have a custom butcher block top made. I had dirty top heart pine in one house and it came out very nice with about a dozen coats of sealer. A good carpenter or cabinet guy can make it and it is different.

I have granite now and it looks just like every other house built in the last 20 years. Ho hum.

I think you need food prep areas and food service areas, and since one surface rarely does everything a combination often looks and performs the best.

I have put quartzite in two kitchens and found it almost unstainable. That would be my recommendation.

I have a white quartzite in my new house and in 3 months have not noticed a problem with staining. Not even red wine.

The stuff is practically non porous and very resistant to stains.

Maybe you should go with Stainless Steel or Copper, won't stain but they will streak and smudge.

You just have to make sure the quartzite is actually quartzite. Some stones get labeled quartzite that are actually marble. If you can get a sample of the quartzite, there are tests you can do to identify what it really is.

Our quartzite counters have been in use for about four or five months and so far it appears to be bullet proof. *fingers crossed*

And its possibly the worst material to be used in a kitchen for countertops.

I have white statuary honed marble, it was sealed at installation two years ago and still no stains. Red wine, curry, turmeric, tomato sauce, etc all come out pretty easily with a lil elbow grease. It is wearing nicely...some etching in spots due to acid, a few dinks from hard/sharp blows, but they add character rather than making it look damaged. Soapstone will show similar wear stress, so if you like perfect, don't choose it either.

Look at Silestone or Caesarstone or other quartz composite......super durable, won't stain, has a stone like appearance.

Go to a place that specializes in stone and look at whole slabs. Some of those Slabs of granite are true works of art. Don't go to Lowes and think that's it. I have been in warehouses full of Granite slabs and it is amazing the different patterns from all over the world that are available. You are right about the black showing streaks.

I'm addicted and must have a granite fetish. If I go in, I haven't come out in less than 3 hours yet,, and I already have granite..

I have been looking at whole slabs. The Quartz IS Caesarstone(stained terribly) and was told you could slice into it. I agree, granite is ho-hum, except for the veined ones. Stainless smears, and concrete chips. Found out Onyx is #1 and Quartzite is #2 in durability. I'll check into Quartzite. Corian and formica stain.Don't know anything about soapstone except it has to be sealed twice a year.

Porous
Chips or breaks

With all the bacteria in raw foods, it would be the last place I would want it in my kitchen.

Weird... I have quartz and it is practically impervious to stains. I did spill food coloring on it before and thought "oh crap", but it came off with 409.
