Doesn't matter.
Because cars cause problems. That's why motorists are taxed. Bicycles don't cause problems and contribute to virtually no road damage. Cars carry with them an astronomically higher level of liability, hence your being taxed and tduecen's not.

I think they should have to buy a registration sticker to help pay for the roads like everyone else.

Exactly. New Orleans has finally started to try and be more bike friendly and it is a really good thing. Bike lanes are popping up all over town. These threads are hilarious. Progressive attitudes are winning in cities and the country. Gay people can get married and soccer is getting more popular.. End of the world is near.

There is a bike lane on the road I live on. They don't use it. Still in the car lane going the wrong way

$50/year bike registration fees to help pay for the roads and offset loss of revenue from vehicle registration and gas tax.
Again, I have a truck and so pay the registration fees and gas tax. Again, registration fees and gas tax pay for almost nothing in terms of local roads....it's property taxes. But most cycling advocates are in favor of the bike registration fee. But when you look at the reality of administering that, it just doesn't make cents. There are so many moving parts to keeping track of a bicycle.

Joggers and pedestrians tend to use the sidewalks,
Many joggers, including myself, use the road. Many places there are no sidewalks.....even in my neighborhood which is an in city hood. And when there are sidewalks they are in such disrepair they are not useable. Tonight, there will be many people pushing strollers, walking dogs and jogging in my hood all on the street.

I wonder how much a single bicycle uses in infrastructure compared to an automobile.
The actual use would be the same but wear and tear would be significantly less. also, a separate bike lane can be built for cheaper than a road, due to not needing to be as thick or wise.
Do you think it's 5%? If so then the bike tax should be 5% of whatever cars pay.

The Federal Road Act of 1916 put $75million into road improvement specifically because of automobiles, and it was the first of countless changes made to accommodate the inevitably growing presence of motorists on roads. Know you of any such series of acts made for the accommodation of bicycles?

Cyclists are the scourge of the road. If you want to make bicyle only sidewalks go right ahead.
I once saw a guy riding a bike down a busy street wearing a skin tight shirt that said "Cars [some number of] feet" with an arrow pointing in the direction of the car. I realize that's completely legal but that's still being an asshat.
To any person who isn't completely full of themselves or oblivious to the world around them, riding a bike on a busy street or busy high way should be considered something that is best not done. Leave the bike riding to recreational facilities and small neighborhoods.
