Why would I have to pay taxes, I am saving the economy and reducing traffic.

Do you mean environment? How do you think you're saving the economy?

Doesn't matter. You're using a public entity with the help of people paying their fair share to maintain that road. So should you. Pollution doesn't have anything to do with it. You're not saving the economy, you're circumventing it, technically.

You willing to pay taxes to be able to ride that bike on the streets, you know, kinda like car drivers have to do with gas taxes?

I've been saying this for years. I don't mind bikes per se, but to ride them on public roads I think they should have to buy a registration sticker to help pay for the roads like everyone else. Also all these added bike lanes aren't free. Pay for that shite if you want it.

Gas taxes pay for mostly state and federal hwys. Local roads are funded by property taxes which I pay a great deal of. We are slowly getting some bike lanes in Dallas. But it is pretty easy to ride here anyway and most drivers are used to cyclist around here.

Riding on the sidewalk is illegal and besides Houston doesn't have sidewalks.

In any area where its logical to ride a bike, it does.

These threads make me happy to take up a whole lane while riding.

On occasion I go from lane to lane to really troll people. Works every time.

They make me happy I'm not part of a community where 99.5% of the rest of the community think are complete douchebags. Gives me a little chuckle when such a small group of people think they are the right ones and everyone else is wrong.

Registration fees pay for about 3-4% of the local roads. Property taxes related pay for most of the local roads. So we cyclist already pay for the roads as much as anyone else. But if you want to create a whole new bureaucracy to register bikes that will cost more to administer than what it collects, fine....and what about joggers who use the public roads? And pedestrians? Should they pay taxes to use the sidewalks?

If you were riding on the sidewalk in my direction while I was walking / jogging, I would clothes-line you off your bike, you idiot!

Joggers and pedestrians tend to use the sidewalks, many of which are paid for by private developers.

$50/year bike registration fees to help pay for the roads and offset loss of revenue from vehicle registration and gas tax. I don't think that is too much to ask. I have to pay to register and use my boat on public lakes.
