the food snobs of the F&D board are actually saying that a grocery store has the best barbecue in BR?...damn, I never thought I would see the day...

I don't know what the best is, but WF does good BBQ.

ABD, WF isn't your typical grocery store. Gave you eaten BBQ or smoked meats from there?

Why do you read FDB?

The perplexed folks over WF having great Q is funny.

Hello, McFly, they are out of Austin/Hill Country, you know..of elite BBQ fame. They purchase high grade product, and unlike many mom and pop joints on shoestring budgets that can have overly fatty marbled or sub-grade meats, and/or may push subpar product just to move it..will toss any suspect product and cook anew.

Sure, you may on some days need to 'express yourself' to avoid the many transitional trainee kid's mistakes from behind the counter with the brisket. Watching for trimming the fat and paying attention to the marbled stuff, as to avoid paying too much for 50% fat..not the norm but has happened a few times.

WF brisket and pulled pork, and also the smoked potato salad(when done by the more experienced employees) is loaded with smoke flavor, a good mix of onions, etc..is great. The BBQ beans and even their Jambalaya(tad dry) are also pretty satisfying.

As long as we come to agree that other chains can and do have some good products.

I personally won't go there because I know I can find as good or better Q at places that are not chains.

If BR BBQ is that bad, then go for it.

...but whole foods barbecue is very good. If I want good barbecue I'll go to the place that has good barbecue, chain or not

Fair enough.

I'm far from an anti-chain guy, but I'm not going to choose a chain if there is a comparable alternative.

Here there are plenty. And I bet less expensive too.

It does show that a chain can develop a good successful formula despite what some people think.

Orlando as well is sorely lacking in good Q.....Whole Foods does do a very creditable job.....I will go there if I'm not doing my own.

Costco.

I picked up the curry chicken from Costo last week. I threw it together with some fresh vegetables and some extra chicken and it turned out pretty good. Very little effort, obviously, and had a pretty great flavoring.

I had the same question.

No loss for me.

I will go to Sandfly or Wiley's depending on where I am.

And I stop at Papa Bucks in Metter when I am between ATL and SAV

And for a burrito I am going to Jalapenos so I can have a Margarona as well.

Most really good bbq places in south texas only make so much quantity and then are out for rest of day. Had place run out of turkey and baby backs within hour of opening on really busy friday.

Think BR would be way too fickle to accept that practice, even if product was very good

Smokin' Aces on Government is exactly what you describe.

So where else can you get pulled pork in BR?

Podnuh's on Florida is ok, but only ok. I'd go get the Big Pig from City Pork next to Georges under the Perkins Road Overpass. They're about to open another one in the old Dempsey's location across from Town Center supposedly.

Podnuh's has great beans. The other stuff is lacking but I wind up eating it a lot because it's in my area.

In BR, BBQ is like good rice and gravy, it's best to do it yourself.

What about Sonny's or Jay's? I haven't been to either one in years.
