re: Pope on spiritual lives of gays and lesbians

quote:

Look, I know you are gay and you think that your lifestyle is normal and it is painful to hear otherwise, but look how your body has evolved and how a female's body has. Notice how those two things fit together to carry on the species? That is evolution working. Anything you do with your body is your business but it is not how nature intended as we evolved.

So fricking should only be done when it's for procreation? I guess 50 year olds shouldn't be allowed to marry either.

Wrong. I am not even talking from a religious standpoint but from a natural law standpoint it is a broken orientation. Whether that brokenness is from a chemical imbalance, genetic, environmental, or what I do not know.

What I do know, for absolute certain is we have evolved to mate in a certain way. No M:M or F:F couple can reproduce, not can they technically have sex. We have evolved so that part a fits nicely into slot b, it is as simple as that.

Just because something feels good/normal/expressive/what ever you want to call it does not make it so.

I came to that conclusion long before I found my faith.

Ok so blowjobs, handjobs, masturbation, etc are all unnatural. Does that change anything? No. Move along.

I saw and see sodomy as wrong from a natural law point of view.

Do you think gay people view gay sex as wrong? Do they do it b/c they have a want to sin? Because they're trying to piss you off?

Has it not crossed your mind that it might be natural to them? Why do you get to make the rules ?

I never said intercourse should be performed only for pro-creative purposes. In fact, I would strongly disagree with that statement.

However, what you do is 1) Not intercourse and 2) is not done for any purpose that the body evolved for. You said my basis was biblical when in reality it is not.

I see by your usage of such a weak straw man you have no answer to the biological fact that the design of a male and a female of a species precludes any type of homosexual sodomy except for personal preference.

i fully support gays and their lifestyle choices, and am in no way discriminatory or bigoted towards them.... so long as they never ever ever act on their nasty, unnatural, perverted urges.

I don't make the rules, I observe designs (not in some by grand designer way but just how things are "made" and can see how things work.

What is "natural" to any individual is meaningless. The "natural" argument is weak. Tell me how you think the human species evolved in such a way that the bodies we have are designed to fit together the way you think they are. they aren't at some level you understand this. You may not like it (and if I was in your position I would not like it) but not liking it does not change the truth.

Nobody here argued that "gay" is the norm. It clearly is not because they are such a minority. That doesn't mean they are in the wrong for being who they are though. And the only "sin" they are committing is sex outside of marriage which is a society-created sin to begin with.

Only in your mind. Pope Francis is simply echoing 2,000+ years of Catholic teaching on the subject of homosexuality.

Is he suggesting that gay and lesbians should be able to take communion even while "living in sin"? That actually would be a serious shift.

no

Again...based on your statement the purpose of fricking is for procreation only. Because it's "natural".

And again, you're reinforcing your own argument that gay is wrong b/c gay sex does not result in procreation....like heterosexual sex with women who have been through menopause or men who have had a vasectomy. Or bjs, hand jobs, etc. It's all "personal preference"...just like gay sex...because it's "not natural".

That's actually a good point. We all are sinners, "living in sin", he seems to be saying.
quote:

That's not what he's saying at al
No, it is what he's saying. From the full article...
quote:

I ask Pope Francis point-blank: “Who is Jorge Mario Bergoglio?” He stares at me in silence. I ask him if I may ask him this question. He nods and replies: “I ??do not know what might be the most fitting description.... I am a sinner. This is the most accurate definition. It is not a figure of speech, a literary genre. I am a sinner.”

Is anyone supposed to care about why you don't approve of what consenting adults do in their bedroom?

your understanding of evolution, mutations, and natural selection are lacking.

Mutations are random and can be for good or bad of the species. Genetics that are carried forward are chosen by the natural selection mechanism. It's completely natural to be gay but the selection process is going to weed you out of the gene pool. Animals have sex homosexually as well so clearly it's a possible mutation.

that's a pretty standard tactic. You offend someone by calling them gay then crush them for being a hypocrite for saying there is nothing wrong with it.

re: Pope on spiritual lives of gays and lesbians

quote:

Extremely significant shift.

How? For example:

quote:

The pope then recalled his comments in July, when he told the media aboard a flight to Rome, "Who am I to judge" gay people?

"By saying this, I said what the catechism says," the pope told Spadaro. The catechism, the Catholic Church's book of official doctrine, condemns homosexual acts, but says gays and lesbians "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity."

"Religion has the right to express its opinion in the service of the people, but God in creation has set us free: it is not possible to interfere spiritually in the life of a person."

Francis said that someone once asked him if he "approved" of homosexuality.

"I replied with another question," he said. "`Tell me, when God looks at a gay person, does he endorse the existence of this person with love, or reject and condemn this person?’ We must always consider the person. Here we enter into the mystery of the human being."

Where has there been a significant shift in the teaching on homosexuality?
