My 3 year old son likes to cook along with me. He stands on a chair by the stove and has his own pot, noramlly with just water and a spoon to stir it, on a cold burner.

Today, he wanted salt and pepper in the water. I asked him if he was making French onion soup. He got down, got an onion out of the produce rack, and put it in the pot.

He is interested in watching me cook and his mom said he does the same thing with her. Maybe one day, he will be a famous chef.

Can we get a "fork view"?

Seriously, awesome that he is interested at this young age.

You should make "no bake" desserts with him. He'd have fun mixing stuff together and there's no heat involved, so it's kid safe.

Great idea! Thanks!

He will enjoy eating what he made!

I wouldn't be able to heat a damn pack of ramen on that stove without knocking every single thing off the back of it.

I know your joy, and i'm happy for you.

My 2 sons (ages 2and 3) would do things like that, so we got them a play kitchen in their playroom this Easter.

NOW, i keep finding toy pots and utensils in the drawers of our kitchen, and real pots and pantry items in THEIR kitchen.

Was looking for my garlic press the other day, went in the playroom, and there it was. I asked the Lil Bucks "what you doin' with this?" ... younger one tells me "we made tha sauce."

Like i said, i know your joy, my brother ... we're raising future chefs.

Keep him away from grease/oil heated at all costs possible. I had the mid-night ride to see the opthamologist office when I was about six. I was bandaged and walking into walls for two weeks.

If you're into cooking it is very enjoyable to have your children share it with you. I had the fun of making ziti primavera with my 4 y/o grandson last week, he loved the chopping (with an appropriate Montessori knife, and the stirring, adding ingredients and eating.

Simple recipes that include easy to chop ingredients like mushrooms and tomatoes work well, and stirring in bowls instead of a pot on the stove is a lot safer.

We take our grandchildren to Young Chef's Academy on Jefferson when they are in town. The boys as well as the girls love going.

Very cool. Whenever I get the chance I'll head over to my Grandmother's when she's watching my cousin's 4 year old and we all cook together. It's always a good time.

It was my interest in cooking anything that got me banished from the kitchen as a result of the above incident. I pulled off the lid af an old school popcorn maker and a kernel popped, and the oil went directly into my eyes.
