His momentum is going towards the dugout. He has to stop that, make an accurate throw to 2nd which would be 110-115
Or he fields the ball backhanded off the hop, plants his foot, has an 85ft throw to 2B.
He only let the ball take him into foul territory so he could create a throwing angle

It’s crazy how people don’t understand that lol. 3B knew exactly what he was doing

The commentators even said after Tre's out, "I don't think he could have made the throw"..to first. The 3rd baseman kind of fumbled it on the wind up. Tre could have stayed and we would have had 3 on. No outs.

Even with beloso running that would be hard to turn 2.

Exactly. He would have been lucky to even get the runner at second. If he stays put the bases are loaded no outs. If he waits and the ball gets by the third baseman he scores easy. If he was told told to go on contact that is an awful panic move by Johnson and a stupid baseball decision.

People need to understand that the coach decides before the pitch is made as to what strategy to use.
They don’t tell the runner to go after the ball is hit.
Evidently our guy was told to go on any ground ball not to the pitcher. It just didn’t work, but not going doesn’t guarantee anything except another AB.
WF executed perfectly. Give them credit.

Even if Tre didn’t go, that would’ve been a really tough double play.

I suspect he could have gotten Beloso at first.

1. Was going on contact (post game confirmed)
2. He looked back so he could attempt to get in throwing lane (it worked. Catcher made play of game)
3. If he didn’t go, that’s a double play with Beloso running.
1-Correct. That was the right call
2-He didnt have to look back. Looking back probably cost him from being safe. No reason to look back.
3-It might be a double play it might not the 3B was leaning to his right and he would of had to make an off balance throw to 2B to get the lead runner.

I may be looking at this cross eyed, but can someone please explain to me why Merrifield wasnt stealing to put pressure on them to throw him out at 2nd. Could have gotten a bad throw or maybe even scored on the throw down anyway. Please expalin. And yes I already know that small ball isnt Jays game.

I don’t think he thought Beloso was physically capable of doing it.
The back story is Beloso shouldn't have swung at hi-outside garbage on 2-1 count.

Yep but the idiots will say it was bad coaching and poor base running. I personally thought we should have squeezed him in hoping to catch them sitting back.

No way that guy could have turned two going off balance towards the 3b line. He likely makes an off balance throw to 1st to try to get an out.
