#1 was a lie if I ever saw one. When the 3B caught the ball he was still at the lip. He got caught in no man’s land and went with his move. The slide left something to be desired.

to be fair the Ump did that.

Meh. Throw strikes when you’re getting squeezed.

If he slid head first and made a swim move, he's safe. He lost all momentum by going in awkwardly, feet first, and made himself a giant target in the process.

That might sound like a lot to think about in the heat of the moment to some people, but it's a play that happens all the time, and the majority of the time the baserunner will go head first and slide wide. It's really not difficult. People are upset with the decision to send him, but I was not. I just didn't like the slide. Lacked common sense.

Tre did nothing wrong there. It’s a contact play; but thinking he was going to turn two on a play where all his momentum was taking him away from second base, even with Cade running, is absurd.

I have no issue with what Tre' did. I don't think he could go back to third.

Maybe if he doesn't look back he gets there faster, but who knows.

Turning 2 on that play would have been damn difficult...even with Beloso running.

3rd baseman and catcher made a great play, but if Trey slides correctly he scores there.

Look I almost made all stars when I was 12 so I would consider myself somewhat of a base running expert. With that being said I disagree with you.

But he didn't get into the throwing lane.

And shame on him for not doing so after looking back at the 3rd baseman having to go wide of the bag.

Slide to the outside, not straight on like a fool.

Third baseman had to make a perfect throw and catcher had to catch it and tag and hold onto ball. Four out of five times the runner scores on that play. Tip your cap to the guys that made the play. The percentages favored the runner but the defense made the play.

What’s sad is no one played Beloso like that all year.
The third baseman must have been there to defend the bunt.

Great picture Lester. He also bobble the fricking ball. There's no one even near 2nd base to cover the bag. Hell, Merrifield might have even beaten the 2nd baseman to the bag.

Beloso is still in the batters box when the 3B catches the ball

He was playing even with the bag and it was a 1-hopper

I doubt seriously he would have went to second. I need to rewatch the play though. He would have gone to first.

At least someone gets it you stay out the double play in those situations granted how the ball was hit they weren’t turning 2. You are reading ball on ground you go home. Worse case scenario you are stuck with men on 1st and 2nd with 1 out so you have possible two chances knock someone in… instead of being 2 outs man on 3rd and only having one chance… also the 1 out men on 1st and 2nd allows for possibly for the bigger inning still

The 3B fielded the ball behind Tre. He had zero option but to go home. If he goes back, he’s tagged out and there’s a chance Beloso’s waddling arse still gets doubled up. If he freezes he ends up in a run down.

Going home was the rig he call but his awful slide was why he was out. Do anything but hesitate and then slide straight into the bag and he’s safe.

Yeah, he isn't going to second on that play, IMO. He's likely too focused on the runner at third, the ball is pulling him towards third and I don't see him whipping around to risk a throw to second after checking the runner at third.

Going on contact when the ball could be hit straight to you is a terrible decision to make.

It’s pre-determined. There is no choice

Who slides head first with the knees tucked underneath them? That is the question here.

Man, you’re right. With the usual Beloso shift that’s a bases-clearing double
