re: Should we have put the interim tag on Steven Pearl

Yes, the "interim" tag for a year would have done wonders for recruiting.
...........or maybe you hire a guy who is familiar with our program and keep the entire staff that has been the most successful in the history of Auburn basketball?
We are literally watching the flaws of your logic play out in real time with the football team. Keeping Durkin did not retain one of the best defenses Auburn has fielded since 2019. Recruiting is about money now regardless of the coach.

AGAIN........what established HC is going to leave the day before practice starts?
Then as the OP suggested, he should have been made interim so a legit search could be conducted at the end of the session.

Why are you acting like if a search was done that the exact same results wasn’t going to happen.
That wasn't the topic of this discussion now was it? I like Steven and want him to succeed. That doesn't change the fact that he didn't deserve to be our HC. Funny how people have so much gusto for holding players accountable based on production but are fine hiring a guy with zero experience as a HC.

That's what a coaching search is for. This cant be your justification for making this hire.

In what way does hiring a white guy qualify?
Are you unfamiliar with the Fox News definition of DEI? Hiring an otherwise unqualified person based on factors outside of merit. Meaning they Didn't Earn It (DEI). White guys can definitely qualify.
We should have had a real coaching search instead of making a DEI hire because regardless how good Steven may be in the future, he didn't earn it. We also should have paid CMB instead of thinking we could get better value at his position through the portal.
The roster is a major problem since we don't have the size down low. But that's why you spend the money on the front end so you're not spending it to fire a coach on the back end. But si that's in the past. We got what we got. This is going to be a season of growth all around.

Feel like what I'm seeing with the basketball team is what's happening to the football team.. Don't pay for good players and you will get the results that come with it.
Before the season, I thought the bball team was headed to the NIT because they were too small down low. Now I hope they at least get to the NIT. They should have kept CMB who is on a tear out West right now (21.5pts 5.4 rebs, 3.1 ast) and they should have paid up for true post players we were in on. But it's not just talent it's chemistry that you lose when rebuilding through the portal. The football team is trending toward making the same mistake.

You must be news to message boards.
Don't blame Durkin. He's not responsible for the financial offers being negotiated.

Tulane played Ole Miss back in Sept and lost 10-45. They're just outmatched.

You are such a pussy its not even funny. You have zero idea what they are offering.
Whoa do you kiss your mom with that mouth lil fella?
Ask your source on staff to let you share with us what's been offered since apparently you do know. No one said their plan was to try and recruit 2/3*. That's just what this plan is going to leave them with.

Almost every HS player that I have seen the new staff offer has been a 4-star or higher. Melt harder.
It's not who we offer. It's what we offer. You must be related to someone on staff.

It wasn't directed at you. I saw the tweet from Hoke. Just my impression of what's about to happen if this is our new trend.

NIL shift going away from front loaded contracts to a more performance based incentivized contract. No doubt it will cause some pain in the short term making that shift but we've had way too many guys coasting on big pay days and doing jack shite with it.
So we're gonna try to find 2/3* talent and coach/ scheme them up to beat the 4/5* talent everywhere else in the SEC. The melts over the next few seasons will be epic!

I dont understand how I watched Auburn score 3 points at home against Kentucky just to watch us put 38 points on Vandy the next week when the only thing that changed was HC.
You would think that this is the easiest cause and effect scenario to understand. I don't understand why some people have so much more vitriol for the players than the coaching leadership and scheme.

Does anyone know how the GM position plays into all of this? Does the GM determine player value then coaches have to negotiate that with him before he tries to sell it to the players?
USF's (South Florida Bulls) defense had a solid 2025 season, ranking around 60th overall but showing strength against the run (24th nationally) while allowing 27.2 points and 409.8 yards per game, finishing 79th in points allowed and 93rd in yards allowed nationally, indicating a middle-of-the-pack performance with specific strengths in stopping the ground game before their bowl game.
Key Defensive Rankings (2025 Season - Pre-Bowl):
Overall Points Allowed: ~79th nationally (27.2 PPG)
Overall Yards Allowed: ~93rd nationally (409.8 YPG)
Yards Per Play Allowed: ~53rd nationally (5.3 YPP)
Opponent Yards/Play: ~5.1 (TeamRankings)
Opponent 3rd Down Conv: ~39.52% (TeamRankings)
Rushing Defense: 24th nationally (allowing 110.1 YPG)
In Summary:
USF's defense was a mixed bag in 2025, excelling against the run but struggling to stop the pass, leading to average overall rankings in points and yards allowed, though they were improving and ranked highly in some situational stats as the season progressed.

Payroll is a big part of budgets for departments & companies. It needs to make sense.
Also hope our contracts have a payback penalty if needed.
Dude none of these contracts make sense. Not the players and especially not the coaches. But nobody is asking coaches for payback penalties. Regardless, we're either going to pay now or pay later. And some of that won't be specifically monetary. There is no way around it in this era.
38 years married and your go to put down on an public forum is to compare posters to emotional women and middle school girls? I'll say less out of respect for her. God bless that woman.
quote:
We got fans that are more emotional than any woman alive.
Sounds like you attract the wrong women hoss. Step your game up. Crawford is worth whatever the market will pay. I have no clue what that is. I know he is our closest thing to a shut down corner. You wanna gamble on the portal to find something half as good? I see why you have women problems.
quote:
ts next man up, period. You cant just capitulate and bend over every time one of your "good" players wants more money than you think they are worth.
I have no idea who Durkin is advocating for or against. I do know that this team is on a historic losing streak. So there is no decision or indecision that is beyond critique.
I also know that fans had all kinds of complaints about Kayin Lee this year. How much better would the defense have been with Hood or Scott opposite Crawford? Sometimes you have to pay the "we suck again" tax to keep your best players.
