I am at the ROC also. I have lived in Bham for 4 years and still have my LA plates.

Thanks. I caught the tail end of the conversation and thought that is what I heard.

College Football Final

Does anyone have a link to the video with Lou Holtz and Mark May talking about LSU last night on College Football Final?

re: Yvette Girouard

Yvette is one of the better coaches in the SEC and the nation. Having said that, Yvette won a ton of games by having excellent pitching and great defense. Yvette's teams have never been overpowering at the plate but she was able to ride the arms to 1-0 and 2-1 victories. I think the pitching staff is there to make this team go far, however this team needs to hit the ball.

I was at both games tonight and LSU takes too many first pitch strikes. Also, Dunne was consistently throwing first pitch changeups to the same hitters...Mitchell, Langoni and Anissa. They never adjusted and I think that Defeo, Hobbs and Yvette did not use the pitch tracker effectively.

Fico will be great but she needs to develop a consistent changeup. She is very similar to Stacy Nelson, who started her career at Florida with a 14-12 record and then went 45 - 5 her senior year after developing a changeup. Fico has the power but when you throw fastballs and curveballs around 70 without an offspeed pitch, the opponents get their timing down and will tee off.

This team has a lot of potential but they aren't doing the little things to beat the best teams in the SEC. I support Yvette and I think these girls can come back and compete with the best in the nation.

re: Driving to Tuscaloosa

Posted by lsu101 on 11/1/09 at 8:00 pm to
You can easily make it to Tuscaloosa from Baton Rouge in a little under 5 hours. I have made the drive three times in the past 3 months. Speed traps start outside of Hattiesburg, outside of Laurel and Meridien has cops before the city, in the city and after the city. The speed drops from 70 to 60 and back to 70 but DO NOT speed up over 70 until you are at least 5 miles outside of Meridian. Peoppe get stopped outside of Meridian going 4 miles onver the speed limit.

ALSO, If you are running low on gas make sure you stop in Meridian because there are limited gas stations rigth off the HWY between Meridian and Tuscaloosa.

re: Bammers not worried

I live in Birmingham and they are very concerned. Most think their defense will continue to play well against our mediocre LSU offense and that is why they think will win. However, most also realize that our defense is vastly improved and there offense is worse than last years. All have admitted it should be very close with special teams play or a turnovers to decide the outcome. Don't let a few Alabama fans that have never ebb stepped a foot on the campus much less in Tuscaloosa speak for the entire fan base.
I paid 600 for a direct flight from atl. Should have bought two weeks ago at 450

SEC Team of the Decade

Interesting Article
If anyone remembers we had a very similar team 4 years ago. Pretty much all new players. Yvette and team struggled throughout the season and was left out of the tourney. This year we had a similar situation but we made the tournament.

It is very similar to the women's basketball program who would play great and then show signs of immaturity. Like everyone said softball is a pitching game and we have one legit pitcher as Shortridge is a 3 inning thrower and Mack is no longer pitching the way she was earlier in the season.

While this team did lose to Florida and struggled adgainst Tenn, they did sweep Alabama. They have the ability, just need the confidence. I do think the regional will be very tough because of the youth but we could make some noise.
A little insight on Birmingham before you make your plans. Birmingham is a great city but there are numerous places that are very dangerous. Basically the suburbs are the best areas; Mountain Brook, Vestavia, Hoover, Cahaba Heights and Pelham. These cities are located off two major Hwy 31 and 280. HWY 280 has the tendency to have horrible traffic.

Within 5 miles of Regions Park and safe:
Courtyard on HWY 31
Hampton Inn on HWY 150
Hyatt Place on 150
Renaissance Ross Bridge - Expensive and on a nice golf course
Days Inn on 150. - does not look to be in the best shape
La Quinta on Riverchase Parkway - quiet and very slow on weekend because it is a hotel that serves businesses on Riverchase Parkway.
Whitney Hotel - You pay for the location (attached to the Galleria). Not really that great for the price but will give the wife something to do if she would rather shop than attend the games.

Hwy 280 has hotels and restaurants and is a great area but the aforementioned traffic is a huge problem. These hotels are about 10 miles from Regions Park.

Downtown has the Redmont Hotel which is a nice hotel with a good bar but is a a good distance away from Regions Park and not a good area at night.
Sheraton Downtown is nice and recently renovated but is not in the best area of town.

Restaurants - there are a ton of restaurants but NOTHING that you are used to in LA. Basically, I would suggest going to the BBQ restaurants for the week. It is like telling visitors in LA to go to the Macaroni Grill and not ACME oyster. I would not suggest any seafood place as they are not comparable to what you are used too.

re: Depth and Lawson were the difference

Tasmin would be stupid to not declare with the idea of not signing with an agent, so he has the option of coming back. 4 of 5 starters are gone and there will be less of a two man game option with Thornton. He will have to carry the team next year and his numbers will probably go up but visibility will go down as we may strugle next year with new players.

Depth and Lawson were the difference

Posted by lsu101 on 3/21/09 at 6:55 pm
Lsu had 3 players play the entire 40 minutes and 2 play over 33 minutes. Little bench for LSU and shots starting going short at the 7 mintues mark.

UNC had 7 players play 20 or more minutes. They were more fresh and it showed.

Congrats TIGERS on a respectable showing. Tasmin upped his draft status after that game so please stay!! Looked very similar to David West when he was at Xaview.
Pokey was a good recruiter but Van and his staff have established themselves as top notch recruiters after signing the number 4 class in the nation last year and signing 2 of the top 75 players in the nation for this year. And with Riley transferring we should be able to sign another player this year. We need a tall defensive presence, like Sylvia.

As far as expectations we will finish in the top 5 in the SEC and should be in the tournament. We should make it to the second round, which could be a tough out for a top team if we continue to develop our youth.

re: I am in Birmingham......

I was wondering if I am the only one who notices this. I have an LSU alumni sticker on my car and usually will only put a flag on my car on my way to the game. Does anyone else think it is so annoying that Bama fans ride around all week with their Flag and their Magnetic stickers on the side of the car?

I am also in Birmingham and could not have been happier to see Alabama lose. I can go to work tomm and tell all of them that they basically won nothing this year. I am usually always for the SEC but I will become a UTE for the next thirty days.
