"Officials "impact" close games all the time."

It is a very fine line between what affects the game and what is just part of the game. It is hard to see which is which when you are pulling for one side.

Sure one play can impact the outcome of a game and so can a call, but one you can prove and one you cannot.
"in a blowout against a terrible team, yes people are going to leave early"

I would agree with you, but this is the first game of the season and the stadium looked so bare. You stay until the game is over. That is what you are supposed to do.
What if Mettenberger is the quarterback of the conference right now?

That would be nuts. That puts him to a Cam Newton or Tim Tebow status.
I think it is pretty hard to argue against the first game with Alabama last season on their own turf. 9-6. Made for a great game. Every play mattered.
LSU seems to have problems at the beginning of each year. But they always rise to the occasion and overcome them. Perilloux lead to the QB controversy, which lead to a messy season. Then Jefferson at the beginning of last year. Now it's Mathieu. Kids are going to do what they want to do. This probably happens with college teams all the time, but we're hearing about this because it's a Tiger and it's a star player.

That's just my two cents.
