Wing finally gets a hold of one...terrible timing

Don't get cute. Just get in in

One week you guys want Ware to get all redzone touches, now you want Mett to get a shot. Make up your minds...
holy balls. a replay official with some stones for once
I don't agree with his rankings one bit...but "everyone" that Alabama has played, is in fact, nobody. So at least he could make that argument.

S. Carolina's play to score the first touchdown was fantastic. I'm still trying to figure how to scheme to stop it.

Starts with #6 alignment. It depends on where your help is before you can decide which side of the WR you want to shade, but the DB needs to get out of the endzone and right up to the line of scrimmage.

You can't switch any route combo this close to the goaline, so you need to get on the WR's hip right away. Punching with your off hand would also help slow down Sanders enough to disrupt the overall timing of the route and may be enough to stop this play all by itself. Still, if you don't press and there isn't any separation when Sanders makes his break, all you have to do is come underneath the route as you carry it towards the sideline and force the QB to thrown it perfectly to the WR's outside, upfield shoulder.

Sometimes the QB makes the throw and there isn't much you can do. But #6 gave himself ZERO chance of making a play on the WR or the ball.

wishbone

But are you talking about running a traditional wishbone offense/scheme or are you thinking triple option and really meant flexbone (and it's variations)?

I don't get why you guys want Mett out. You can accomplish everything that either a wishbone or flexbone set would out of any unbalanced formation and you still have a real threat to throw.

LINK

You have uncovered gaps and a QB who is a real threat to throw still in the game. Seems like a win-win

Why not bring in Rob Bolden or Jerrard Randle to run option?

D-coordinator's dream. Bring in a particular personnel grouping that you only run a couple plays out of. Straight up man coverage, bring safeties into the box, everyone has a single gap assignment, and you can easily disguise run blitzes.

You should be calling plays on saturdays.
LSU just needs to start mixing it up a little.

Play action out of tight formations, slip a TE/FB into the flat or drag him across the formation.

Single back, quick slant.

Heavy backfield, fade (like they tried) and get Mett to make a pre-snap decision based on the CB's alignment wether to go far corner vs. back shoulder (stop fade).

Shotgun 4 wide, lead draw with Mett.

So many options. LSU has too many formation based tendencies at the moment. I think they'll find success when they start breaking the mold.

And more with regards to Leaf- we don't know how much he was allowed to do at WSU, vs what Mettenberger got zapped with at UGA.

Surprisingly he wasn't allowed to "do" a lot in terms of calling his own plays. It was actually a pretty big part of the rather contentious relationship he had with Price.

But the WSU offense was sort of a pro-style/air raid hybrid. A pass heavy offense out of pro-style sets. Think New England in the early 2000's, before they started really utilizing shifts and multiple, wide TE sets.

Mett's issue is that he hasn't been consistent throwing an accurate ball at any depth (5 yard stop vs 15 yard out vs 40 yard bomb). He's also close to a full second late on a lot of his reads/throws. You hope those things will improve with experience but some guys just never progress like you thought they would.

Leaf was an unreal college qb.

Mett needs to throw a TD or 50 before you compare him to Leaf
