beef bulgogi
mandu (dumplings)
I could pig out on some mandu right now, except I don't think there's a good Korean place near where I'm at.

re: Listening to dad's old CD's

My dad had some LP's but I don't remember a lot about him playing them. My parents got into CDs very early.
Yea, about once a month or so I want a good steak that tastes like beef. This weird meat that looks like it came from a production line isn't going to cut it. Maybe it is a plot to make us go vegan
Listening to dad's old CD's
Posted by vikitiger on 3/30/12 at 2:18 am
Lately, I've been listening to my dad's CD collection. A lot of listenable off the wall stuff, but some well known stuff that I've really gotten to like - Al Green seems to be what I'm playing too much of right now. That man kicks butt. Getting into Stevie Wonder - I always liked the Red Hot Chili Pepper's covers of his songs.
I think it was overprocessed. Way to uniform. If I pushed the steak knife down (no sawing) it would cut a piece off. It was gross.
Weird ribeye at restaurant
Posted by vikitiger on 3/30/12 at 1:07 am
Went out tonight for dinner at a steak place (not an expensive place but one that usually has had decent steaks). Usually, I have a filet but sometimes I get a ribeye. When I get one, I carve out the fat.
Tonight, the steak had a bizarre texture, smooshy would be the word that comes to mind. None of the normal fat. I didn't have to carve anything out. The steak was really tender but spongy. It didn't have the ordinary ribeye texture.
Seriously, I hoping it wasn't horse meat. Is there some weird process now for tenderizing beef?

I was a little scared to click on a link for Beaver Choice.
I appreciate everyone's suggestions.
I am also very bored tonight for some reason.

True dat. My brothers are all big guys - a Marine, a professional athlete and a shyster. Dinner time was frenzied.
that sounds good gris and it adds some volume. Thanks.
A few years ago, I had wagyu beef at the Aragawa in Tokyo. It's in an office building basement so I initially thought no big deal, but the steak was 100 times better than anything I've had before or after. I did not pay, but it was very expensive.
We're talking Wagyu:Ruth Chris = Ruth Chris:Golden Corral (well, not quite that bad)

I'm not as bad as I used to be about leftovers. If I make spaghetti (slow cooked from scratch) or a similar dish, I cook it in pretty large portions. My brother now comes by and gets some of the leftovers. I'll bring some to my neighbors.
I have three brothers so we never had leftovers growing up. They'd eat like a pack of wild animals.

Leftovers from last night. Took some leftover fat from my roasted chicken from Monday night along with garlic and shallots and sauteed some broccoli. Threw in some shredded chicken, and then leftover rosemary potatoes. I put all that on some spinach flat bread and topped with cheese. I guess you could call it a flat bread quesadilla.
Sounds yummy. I waste a lot of leftovers. My brother sometimes comes over and cleans out the frig.

Meat Dip
that's a guy's meal - meat, cheese and something to mix them in!
I volunteered to cook for some friends when they have their NCAA finals party. They'd probably love the meat dip. Sour cream chicken enchiladas will be the main course.

Thanks
The TeePee sounds good. I love spicy food, the hotter the better. The place that had green corn tortillas sounded like a possibility too.
Thanks again

Places to eat in Phoenix

My employer is sending me to Phoenix week after next for a few days. I've never been to Phoenix and I don't know anyone there either.
Any suggestions on good dinner places would be appreciated.
A live music venue rec would also be appreciated.

I love water chestnuts. I throw them into every Chinese dish I fix.
