A lot of the criticism of Pearl this year reminds me of the criticism of Saban in 2007. At the time, I imagine that many people were just as cynical about how well Saban would do at Alabama. I'm not saying that the outcomes are going to be similar, and I don't see Pearl and AU playing for a national title (or even an SEC title) anytime soon. But the shortsightedness of the criticism is similar.

If you know anything about working in academia, you'd know that (department politics aside) almost every SEC school would be a great place to work and tenure-track positions are anything but easy.

By now, everyone probably knows about the kid who pulled out a baby alligator to signal his commitment to Florida. A few years ago, a kid revealed a (rented) baby bulldog when he committed to UGA.

How would you do it if you were committing to your favorite team? The other SEC teams?

Interestingly, this was not directly caused by the tornado. This area of Tuscaloosa (15th Street and 22nd Avenue) is far removed from the tornado's path.
