The Important thing that we see is Saban’s commitment to relationships. You have the development of players as individuals on and off the field, the disciplining of players, the value of treating people with dignity and the value of loyalty and respect.

Treating people well is how one builds a long lasting successful program. Sure, coaches can take a short cut and yank out upperclassmen for new guys who are slightly better, or represent “the future” or to please the fanbase, but the longterm cost is lack of loyalty from players, which DOES count, even in the NIL era, and lack of motivation to improve. Nobody is busting their tail for you if you are going to not give some deference to time in service. Bryant was famous for playing upper-classmen over young players if the young player did not clearly outshine the older. It was a reward for hard work, and a motivator for others to keep working.

Deboer built that same culture in his first two years. He will play a Keelon Russell over an Austin Mack when the evidence is overwhelming, and he will play a Jalen Milroe when he is the reigning SEC POY.

Being a successful coach is way more complex than what video gaming systems lead people to believe. How exactly is he supposed to get better than he is now? Okay, reduce things like delay of game penalties, but that is not ceiling stuff.

Really this game is a lot closer except Rico Scott catches a touchdown in which the defender hits his body and rakes his facemask. Another great catch was made on the crosser that turned into a back shoulder. And RCW made a highlight reel grab in which he landed flat on his back and didn’t even let the ball move. If it moves, probably ruled a completion out of bounds.

We have come to expect unconscious play from Keelon, but our receivers were out of their minds today.
