re: Hogs AD threatens big 12?

Yes, but would the Big 12 fair as well in court for it's tortious interference with AR?
Ultimately, I don't think Baylor's last ditch effort to keep the Big 12 intact will work. But, for those saying they have a "entitlement mentality" and that is what is wrong with our country. What about honoring the contracts you enter into? Being a man of your word? I recall a quote from A&M's president from 2010 that said nothing meant more to an Aggie than keeping their word. All Baylor wants is for the Aggies to honor the contract they agreed to LAST year (not many years ago).
Maybe Slive should be looking into taking action against the Big 12 for contacting AR and asking them to join the Big 12? A&M wanted out - made that clear to the Big 12 - applied to the SEC. The SEC asked the Big 12 for it's ok - to prevent an appearance of poaching. AR has not said it wants out of the SEC. The Big 12 didn't seek the SEC's ok to offer AR membership. Who is messing with who?

I'm not sure it's "laughable" since it worked at stopping the party in College Station. I agree it likely won't stop an eventual move. But, it put the SEC on notice that there may be legal expenses and distractions that it clearly doesn't want. This is evidenced by the fact the SEC denied A&M's first public interest due to it had obligations in the Big 12. A&M thought is got the green light to leave and then at the final hour a wrench was thrown in it by Baylor. Baylor may be delaying the inevitable, but the SEC has no reason, nor is there an upside, engage in any legal actions.

Maybe the Big12 teams agreed to stay in the Big 12 (namely OK). But, there is no way the SEC would agree not to "poach" other Big12 teams to get A&M. And, no offense to A&M. Bottomline is the SEC would not agree to be handcuffed like that considering the landscape of all of the conferences seem to be evolving to expansion.
"Tampering" may not, but intentional interference with a contract does. If not, why would SEC want assurances no legal action will be taken. It seems clear the Big 12 gave that assurance and stated it along " with it's members" would not take legal action. Obviously, they didn't check with their members (Baylor). Now, AR saying Big12 trying to induce them to leave SEC. That is intentionally interfering with a contract. A&M wants out and applied to SEC. AR did no such thing and was approached by Big12. It's a mess. Personally, I think the SEC is fine the way it is. 5 straight BCS titles confirm my thoughts. A&M, no offense, but no thanks. Too much drama and baggage. The SEC should table it and move on.
It definitely has to do with TX politics. A&M is a state school. They may leave for another conference - if not this year - in the future. But, they certainly can't afford to burn any bridges with the politics involved. They have been talking big, moving meetings etc. to attempt to show they are relevant. In the end, they had to crawfish and back down some. A&M threw their temper tantrum and whined like a baby about the Longhorn network - picked up their ball and threatened to play with someone else. But, now they may not be wanted by the SEC and now they may have to go back, head down and humiliated to play where they were to begin with. I hope that is what happens. They bring nothing to the SEC except for an inferiority complex.
He is no longer in the running for the HC at Temple. Looks like he is headed to Texas. See the Philadelphia Inquirer article:

UF Strength Coach to stay at Florida

Florida strength and conditioning coach Mickey Marotti will be retained, Muschamp said. So far, he is the only member of the current staff who will definitely return.

I have read that Shannon is in the running, but nothing offical yet.

Good stuff! :rotflmao:
Orangebloods in response to the rumors and speculation of Akina and Applewhite heading to FL:
As a staff, we've now talked to a few sources who have indicated that Will Muschamp is not targeting Major Applewhite or Duane Akina as coordinator candidates at Florida.

Another person we spoke with who is close to the situation said as of this morning, no offer had been made by Muschamp to bring Applewhite aboard.

We'll continue to monitor this situation because things could change as Muschamp gets settled, but for right now it appears Muschamp is looking in other directions.

Alabama DC Kirby Smart continues to be a hot name as a possible Fla DC candidate.

The name being floated around by people close to the Florida program last night was Dana Holgerson as being high on the wish list at OC
Applewhite is not he OC - at least not yet. Orangebloods reports:

I saw on Orangebloods that Rick Minter was going to be Kentucky's DC not Shannon. Shannon is apparently in the running for the DC job at Texas.

Per Orangeblood's insiders - they posted at 1:30 p.m. today the following:

One thing that has not been mentioned is that Texas named Muschamp the Head Coach in waiting. I realize this is not the same as meeting your criteria. But, clearly Texas is a top program and they felt Muschamp was ready to be a HC or they wouldn't have paid him almost a million per year to keep him from taking the Tenn job etc. The point is Muschamp doesn't fit your typical DC hire to HC.
I think Muschamp is a good DC and will likely be a good HC. But to keep saying Texas had the 7th rank overall defense is not completely accurate. UT's defense nationaly ranked as follows:
Total passing 38th
Scoring 51st
Rushing 42nd
And yes in recieving they did rank 7th.
The problem this year was poor tackling, poor field position due to a pathetic offense and obvious internal issues. Muschamp has always said stats are for losers. So, he probably could care less where his defense ranked. I think he has a great opportunity, and although I like him - I hope he fails --at least against LSU.

Miles should stay. We fans need to be careful about wanting him to leave -- who would you rather? Would they even come here? Not to mention Miles' recruiting is very good and he is already entrenched in Texas, a hot bed for star recruits. Those relationships can't be overlooked.
