re: Most Athletic Sport

Baseball: It's an extremely difficult skill sport but the strength and speed departments are lacking

Obviously you've never tried to hit a baseball 500 feet or throw it 100 MPH. I love how baseball players are deemed "weak" by people that know nothing about the sport just because they don't squat 495 and bench 405, although overall the muscles required to play baseball at a high level are a lot harder to develop than the ones that basketball and football players have naturally from being 6'5 230 lbs.

The amount of body control that it takes for a shortstop to field a ball traveling 110 mph, stay smooth and loose, use good footwork, and make an accurate throw to 1st in roughly 3-4 seconds is a LOT harder than anything a basketball player has to do mechanically, and that's one of the simplest things that can take place in a baseball game.

The debate can go on, but the fact is that all sports are incredibly difficult to play at their highest level and arguements can be made for what kind of athleticism is the most "significant". Comparing Federer to Woods to Jeter to Jordan to Manning is irrelevant because they're all playing at such a high level that most people can't understand the subtleties of their game anyway, and even if they can understand it, they're still all completely maxed out physically and using all of the athleticism in them for their individual sport, just in different ways.

It seems to me that the sports media in this country, most of all ESPN, have become less about reporting on sports. They're primary objective as they see it is to perpetuate drama and control narratives in order to maintain viewership.

I complete agree with this. If Lebron would've gone to the Knicks or Bulls he would've been criticized for not going to the Heat and forming the first ever trio of all-stars, and if he would've gone back to the Cavs they would've said that the decision was emotional and greedy and probably the worst for his basketball career. Whatever his choice was going to be a lose-lose because the media just wanted to create drama over this and get better rating. I don't see how anybody can deny his decision making in this process because the Heat is obviously the best choice for him

I hope we don't recruit anymore like that at LSU.

I do, I'd take a player exactly like JR as LSU's quarterback this year in a heartbeat. Character is really overrated in college football and if a coach runs his program the right way and watches his players there's no reason that they should have any problems. As long as they stay trouble free throughout their LSU career, just like Jamarcus did, I could give a shite less how much trouble they get in for the rest of their careers in the NFL

Clemson wants to be LSU?

Did anybody else notice the weird shite that they were doing during the baseball game that was LSU-esque? The whole Death Valley fiasco is enough, but during the Bama-Clemson super regional game I saw two more to add to the list. They had an eatery called "Cajun Restaurant" at their baseball field, why I have no clue considering that there is NOTHING cajun about South Carolina. Second thing I saw was a "Go Tigers, Beat Bama" sign which has historically been one of our sayings during the Bama-LSU games. Anybody else see anything like this?
1. I can name one that lost us a game (JJ miscommunication on whether to spike or kick a field goal) and that's too many for a coach being paid $4,000,000 a year.

2. Tim Tebow wouldn't have won the Heisman because LM and GC would've forced him into being a pocket passer rather than playing to his strengths and Mark Ingram wouldn't have won the Heisman either because the only plays he would run would've been dives up the middle and options to the short side.

3. I'll group them together.
Offensive- Anybody other than Les Miles would've been an improvement.
Defensive- Probably would've been better without Miles this year because an actual system would've been in place for a few years and we wouldn't have had to scrap the co-DC's and start over.

4. Miles made as many stupid decisions as anyone this year. He single handedly lost us a game or two.

That's 4 threads BTW dumbass. It's time to quit defending Miles and accept that our program is sliding back into the Dinardo and Hallman and Archer days. But then again you're probably the type to stay on the ship until it hits bottom, then start to panic, instead of just identifying that it's sinking and getting the frick off.

5-7 or 4-8 depending on how improved Mississippi State and West Virginia are. If they significantly improve we probably drop one.

Problem is, Miles believes in having a solid running game

What Bama win the MNC title, it's the blueprint for success.

Our offense was so far away from Bama's this year that we can't even be considered to be in the same tier as them.

Bama ran a good mix of plays and kept defenses on their heels; Crowton on the other hand ran a jughead Big Ten offense that won't EVER work in the SEC. I'd much rather pass heavily with our athletes at reciever than run short side options and runs up the middle until third down then force JJ into a throw that can't be made.

Yea with Mike Leach's scheme in place our offense could move all the way down to 108-120.

This. As far as early hype for the Heisman, let's not forget that Barkley came out of high school as the Player of the Year and the no. 1 rated pro style QB. That alone gives him early name recognition at the least. The fact he started as a true freshman (a first at USC) says a lot about his future development and potential at a school known for producing high powered offenses and Heisman winning QBs in recent years. Thus, it comes down to natural talent and great measurables, being in a great program which will develop his talent, and past recognition as the best in the nation for his age group.

And what exactly has he done in college to support this? Your main argument is how great he was in high school, and that doesn't mean shite unless he can do it at the college level. What makes it even worse is that he's playing in the worst BCS conference and can't even come up with numbers better than JJ's. He's done absolutely nothing to merit a spot on the early Heisman watch list. I'm not saying that he can't work his way on it by next year or his junior year, but as of now he's nowhere close to being on it.

High school doesn't matter.

Did you see USC's quarterbacks this year? They were fricking TERRIBLE. He got the spot by default.

if he gets on track with football he'll make a lot more money and will not have to deal with playing in the minors.

This. With his family situation (i.e. he needs money to support his kid NOW) he probably won't want to spend 5+ years in the minors making 20-40k a year when he could make pretty big money right off the bat in the NFL. As a side note, has there been any word on how Alex Edward and Wes Luquette have been playing? I thought that they were pretty highly touted and I really haven't heard anything about them thus far.

re: CHS-Duvall #70

No. Not Nelson. You know why? Nelson is a white wide reciever. I don't know anything about him but I know that most colleges will avoid him due to that. No major programs would want a white kid to play wideout when there's a wealth of athletes that are black and better fit the mold of a college reciever. It's sad but true. We need to stick to o-line, linebacker, fullback, and QB and leave the skill positions to the black guys.

Gen Patton, I'm not going to lie, no one gives a shite about CHS other than grads like you and lynx due to the fact that the only high D1 football players on their roster right now are Oliver and possibly Duvall. Everyone else you've mentioned has limited potential at best

JJ has the advantage in the bolded stats, not to mention that he was a year younger than JR. Not sure how a NASA engineer could miss that. Maybe dumbasses like him are the reason that the Space Shuttle Columbia was in a million pieces 30 seconds after takeoff?

Better yet what's your point with that pointless arse stat? 2001 has nothing to do with the fact that Les Miles hasn't gotten the team up for a big SEC game and dominated since 2006.

I want to see that fat frick get annihilated by someone good.

Not Schaub. He was a prick the entire season along with Mcsweeney. I thought Jones deserved to get knocked the frick out by Mitrione too FWIW.

Somewhere way back when in this post someone brought up the Big Ten bowl record.

I think it's pretty simple to explain.

It isn't that the Big 10 hasn't been relevant in 30 years? :dunno:
Who's to say that a new coach won't come in and coach our talent to 13-1, 12-2, etc.? A more likely scenario would be:
A) Get a new OC and go 9-3 or 10-2 and keep our recruits.
B) Clean house and go 11-1 but lose a few recruits.

I'll take B considering our recruiting will take a hit anyway with another 8-5 or 9-4 season.
