I think this is a case where having no track record helped. Sometimes, it's easier to sell potential than proven results.

Unless Kiffin makes a significant improvement over last year, I don't see UT having another class like this. I wouldn't be surprised to see a mass exodus of transfers, actually.

I'll tell you what street they heard that word on.

It was the let's-get-people-to-post-a-link-to-our-site street.

10k fans at practice chanting his name..done deal imo

They fell a little short of the 10k goal. It was reportedly "about 2k."

I read that the parents are coming in Sunday

I don't think so. Jeremy Crabtree is supposed to be in Kansas to interview all of them on Sunday.

Oregon isn't getting Brown. I don't think he wants to get forgot about in the "Great Northwest". I think he wants to play in the best conference in the country. The SEC.

The guy on Volquest so says he will be there this weekend has had him on his radio show a couple of times and his info is usually right on. I don't know if he shows up or not. But UT has opened a practice up for tonight and expect around 10000 fans. To me it seems like good timing with the report from the guy on volquest. So I think either he has told them he is coming or he is coming.

But I don't see how you could turn down LSU, Tennessee, Miami to play in Oregon to never be heard of again.

You mean forgotten in Oregon, never to be heard of again like Jonathan Stewart? Drafted as a junior in the 1st round. Scored 10 TDs his rookie season for the Panthers. Ever heard of him?

Some people heard of Oregon last year when they finished 10th in the nation. Where did UT finish? Do they have a "Top 75 Teams" rankings list on ESPN?

Current odds for involved teams to win the NC game in 2009:

Oregon - 1/20
LSU - 1/20
Miami - 1/35
Tennessee - 1/100

Brown visiting UT at this point sounds good for the Vols. But, I wouldn't count your chickens until Monday.
quote:

Seriously, I know it's hard not to be a homer but there is NO WAY a UT fan could like the way Kiffin represents that school!

I asked them about this directly. At least for now, it seems that most of them are staying on ship. But, if UT has another bad season, I would expect fans to be jumping off that schooner in droves by next spring practice.

quote:

this kid is amazing, i do not want him in the SEC

I think he's the real deal talent-wise. But, his high-school team had a pretty bad record. Just goes to show that even the best RB around can't carry a team without the supporting cast. That's why I think it would be a big mistake for him to go to UT when he has other options open. Defenses will just key on him until they have to pass in the 3rd quarter.

quote:

You would think with the Vols rebuilding and guaranteed arse whippings coming from Florida, Georgia & S. Carolina for at least the next 4 years--- this guy would figure that there won't be much yardage to go around when you are always 3 touchdowns behind!

I ran that one by them (volnation) also. They disagree. Can't blame them for being hopeful. But, seems like a pretty gamble to me, just from Brown's perspective.

quote:

Tennessee beating Florida at home next year...not happening. Beating Bama at home next year...not happening. Beating Ole Miss at home next year...not happening. Only losing one game out of Auburn, Georgia, and South Carolina at Neyland...not probable. There's 5+ losses right there assuming UCLA or Vandy don't put a pounding on you. Winning 9 is a pipedream for TENN. That said, 9 wins isn't getting any SEC team to the SEC CG.

Good points. He could go to Oregon where there is a clear opening for an RB and start out on a top 25 (or 10 depending on the poll) team.

If he does go with UT, it will have been a sell, imo.
quote:

And besides Dixon who the hell at Oregon has ever gotten a bunch of publicity? I realize they have had good players but they pretty much fly under the radar.

quote:

Brown has a girlfriend at UT? come on? I thought this kid was a Christian? He already has a girlfriend at UT?

Pretty sure that was a reference to his hostess at UT. Some were saying that he was "married" to her on Facebook. But, they now say that they are not. So, perhaps the relationship was annulled?
quote:

Every year, about 3 or 4 PAC-10 teams are ranked nationally and by the end of the year 1 is still in the polls. Happens all the time.

It does? When was the last time that it happened?

Pac-10 teams in the final top 25, by year:

2008: 3
2007: 4
2006: 3
2005: 4
2004: 3
2003: 2
2002: 2
quote:

Oregon-PLEASE! No real tradition, great facilities, but little or no championships, very little talent compared to most of the other schools he's looking at. Has virtually no ties there whatsoever.

Past championships don't help a recruit much if new ones don't occur while they play there.

Pre-season polls are projecting the Ducks to be a top team. Right around or higher than LSU, depending on the poll. So, they must have some decent talent. Last year, they had two 1000 yard rushers and were #3 in the nation rushing over-all. Year before, they sent Jonathan Stewart as a junior to the NFL in the 1st round. Scored 10 TD's for a play-off team as a rookie. Might be appealing to a running back.

With the exception of Miami, Brown has better ties to Oregon than the other programs. His friend Chris Harper plays there. Plus, he has always said glowing things about Chip Kelly, calling him a friend beyond football.

But, I agree with some of the other points you made...
BB publicly planning an unofficial to Miami > UT fans having secret confirmation of a "lock"

BB has every reason in the world to skip an unofficial to Miami if he is indeed decided on UT. A death in the family. Miami "not interested". It's not free to travel. He's already traveled a lot and is probably tired of the process by now.

Until someone comes out with something better sourced, I'm taking the rumors with a grain of salt.
I find it difficult to believe that Brown would be a lock to UT at this point but he is still taking an unofficial to Miami, from Kansas, on his own dime.

My impression is that he wants to be a Duck. But, his parents weren't sold on it. So, he has been checking out other options at their insistence.

I agree with the article in part. I don't think Brown has done anything wrong.

But, I also don't think fans in a general sense have done anything wrong (the facebook stalkers are a bit much). A lot is at stake for fans. Fans are passionate about the game. So, it's only natural that Brown's decision gets a lot of attention.

So, in short, Brown isn't the problem and we aren't either. This is just what we do in the off-season when there aren't any games to watch.
Considering that Kiffin got his start at USC and that USC video matches exactly what was described, I don't think there can be any doubt that this is true. Apparently, he stole the idea from Pete Carroll.

Freakin' weird.
