Did they overpay? I have no idea what they were paid. But what you are going to realize is that Kiffin doesn’t really recruit high school kids very hard, he doesn’t believe in it anymore. He has said repeatedly that if a kid isn’t ready to play in the first year maybe 2, they should go to a smaller school and develop, then come play for him when it is time.
This isn’t a troll. He has been (and I imagine will continue to be) very successful in doing it this way. It’s the way of the portal era and you need to embrace it. Every year, every one is a free agent. You will get some that are great additions and you will lose some you wish you didn’t (but will of course claim are addition by subtraction).

They are mostly interchangeable. I could see them flipping Ole Miss and Oregon just to avoid a rematch, even though they have said they wouldn’t do that. It was a blowout that nobody (TV) wants to see again. A&M vs Notre Dame is a rematch they would keep because it was such an exciting game.
Dellenger is an LSU puppet, so now a Lane puppet. Low is probably pissed because Lane or Sexton fed him info he would put out there and probably promised him the first interview and then didn’t follow through.

I think it is similar but there are a few differences:
-He hasn't it let it become a spectacle the way Kiffin has. His name came up as interviewing for Florida and he immediately shut it down.
-Kiffin has said he doesn't discuss during jobs during the season and that in and of itself would be fine if he didn't have his agent actively negotiating with multiple schools and very publicly send his family to check out those locations.
-Nobody is expecting Sumrall m or trying to get him to leave in the middle of a playoff push. I don't think you will hear anything about him taking another job until his season is actually over (I could be wrong, but just a feeling).
All Kiffin had to do is say I don't discuss job opportunities until after the season, and then live by that. Don't have your agent do it. Say if you are interested in hiring me, talk to me after the playoffs. (It's different if it is not a year you are in playoff contention)
Or he could have told LSU and Florida, one word gets out about this and we are done.

He wouldn't leave then. He would try and drag it out another week. LSU would have to make a decision to keep upping the ante to try and convince him to go ahead and leave. Ole Miss would probably let it play out another week as I imagine their target is going to be playing in a championship game as well.

He’s letting Lane play him like a fiddle and control the narrative.
So they should fire him? And pay the buyout now when he will just make it official in a few days? There is apparently no offset language in the contract so that would be dumb.
I don't think Kiffin is controlling any narrative. He is and will be vilified by the media for how he has handled this. He will win a good bit wherever he ends up, but other than to the fanbase of whatever his current team is, he will not have respect he had even as recently as a month ago from an outside perspective. I think the national media and general college football public had kind of bought into him being a changed man. Don't think they will be fooled twice.
re: Ole Miss mad LSU may do to them what they did to FAU

If I remember correctly, he wasn't announced until after the conference title game, at his request. Also, it was kept fairly quiet until then as well so as not to be a disservice to his team.

They had the talent to last year but I would say some very questionable coaching decisions cost them a chance to make the playoffs.
This year, not as talented and seem to play to the level of their competition, but they seem to be finding ways to win.
So who knows? Maybe? All comes down to matchups. Not sure they have the defensive talent to match up with Ohio State’s offense, but could get into a shootout.

If that is what helps you get through this, then go with it.
Edit: He can still do that if that is really what he wants. Sign the extension and then have LSU pay the new buy out.

They aren’t forcing him to do anything. If he really wants to be the coach at LSU, he will be the coach at LSU. It’s not that complicated.

So, the pre-Saban days. I think we can all get on board with that.
re: The deal is that until Saban arrived, LSU was an also ran. Now, 20 years or however long

Most of the fans on this board are too young to remember what LSU truly is historically. Middle of the pack, slightly better than Ole Miss/Arkansas/etc... Saban woke a "sleeping giant". The thing is, there are lots of potential "sleeping giants" out there, just needing the right coach at the right time.
But also remember, Saban was only hired after they had been turned down by their first 6-7 choices. They then realized where they were and set a salary record at the time to lure him away from Michigan State. Hiring a coach is a crap shoot. Sometimes you hit the lottery and sometimes it is a disaster. Usually it is somewhere in between.

They don't like to be reminded that they were very similar programs prior to Saban showing up (a large portion of their fans have trouble remembering that).

Vandy is his dream job.
I think his actual dream job is Notre Dame. There are probably a few jobs he would seriously consider but I’m not sure Penn State is one of them. It might be, just depends on what he wants. Big stadium/fan base, fairly easy to get to 10-2 most years and in the playoff ???????. At the same time, I think I’ve heard Kiffin say, there is nothing like coaching in the SEC, and there currently only 16 (too many) of those jobs (why I wouldn’t expect Kiffin to go out of conference if/when he goes). Lea might feel the same way.

Darius Garland is great but he only played like 4 games at Vandy before getting hurt. Can't really count him.
I would say it would have to be Clyde Lee when you look at college & pro together.

Going to get Kentucky job next year.
I will start this by saying, don't lose 3 games.
But, I just don't understand this infatuation with South Carolina. I mean, they won their last 6 games , but it wasn't like they were really dominant and in at least 2 of them, they eked out wins. I mean they won the games and that counts for something but at no point was I just blown away by watching them (maybe the A&M game but was that the only dominant performance all year?). And it's not like Ole Miss or Alabama were really playing that poorly down the stretch, yes they both had a bad game, but they also played really well and dominated teams during that stretch too. In the case of Ole Miss, their bad game was losing on the road to a much improved Florida team with budding star at quarterback by a touchdown. Yes, Alabama laid a complete egg.
Maybe it's because nothing was expected from them? This is a team that has some pieces in place and should go big in the portal for some difference makers and really contend for a spot next year. Personally, I just didn't see it this year.
All to say, by grouping them in with Ole Miss and Alabama, I think it hurt the league's chances of getting that 4th team in. Missouri was 9-3 also and you didn't hear them mentioned. In my mind, South Carolina was more similar to them than they were Ole Miss or Alabama.

Always was the game. Now that it's legal, others are allowed to play.
I mean someone has to lose games. Unless you really want to go NFL lite and are ok with a lot of teams going .500. Vandy gets kicked out, that is just an additional loss someone else will have to pick up.
