re: Grubb on 4th Down...

Yeah we're not that bad on 4th down, although I think we should just QB sneak it with our 6'3" athletic QB when it's a yard or less.

I just thought the meme was funny
quote:

Truth is, if we had escaped this game we would be praising the defense. The offense not taking opportunities every time they had the ball and perfect set up to score absolutely hurt us.

You're right. We have the perfect defense to compliment an offense that is lighting up the scoreboard.

The problem is when we absolutely NEED a stop, Wommack doesn't know how to adjust and go cover 0 or cover 1 and manage risk/reward.
Bend but dont break works great when you're ahead, but not when you're behind and you need the ball back asap.

Not sure how any Defense giving up the 2nd fewest points, 2nd fewest yards and forcing the most turnovers on the SEC since 2024 is considered so terrible by the fans?

It's his inability, or unwillingness to adjust to the in-game circumstance. Sometimes in a game, you need to hit the QB, and it's worth the risk to bring the house. Sometimes in a game, you need to sell out against the run because you can't let the opponent bleed 10 minutes on one drive.

Wommack's defense works great in the red zone, but sometimes I feel like we might as well just let them into the red zone on the first play of each drive so we quit wasting time. It seems like we're gonna get gashed all up and down the field anyway.

No

Wommack belongs back in the Sunbelt
Damn. That article is describing the Grubb problem to a T

Also the injuries are showing how precarious college football rosters are in the portal era

My thoughts exactly. Each injury we've had has shown up in a big way.

It's impossible to keep any quality depth.

We lost Isaiah Horton, Qua Russaw, Kelby Collins, and James Smith to the portal among others. They'd all be huge for us right now.

Nobody can afford to have depth anymore.
I think the rest of the season sets up really nicely for us.

Texas A&M will be a nice game to get back on track at home, and build confidence.

Then we have a bye to heal up all of our missing guys

Then we go to LSU to play a struggling team who doesn't quite have the pieces in place yet. Historically we haven't had trouble winning here.

Then we have Vanderbilt, a cupcake, and Auburn at home. Those are all games that we should win.

I think our team struggles significantly when they face a dominant defensive front. Fortunately we won't see that the rest of the way. I think we'll win out and make the playoffs. And with as wacky as the season has been so far, even the SECCG is still on the table.
Yeah, you know it's AI because DeBoer is a nervous nancy with no charisma

It was the exact same thing vs. Georgia. They consistently had 9 guys blocking 7 in the run game, and we've still got 2 deep safeties in obvious run situations. Like wtf are we doing??

His whole philosophy is "make them snap it again"

Yeah, well Tennessee kept snapping it again and again for 10 fricking minutes and that's literally how we lost.
Sometimes you don't want the other team to be able to run the entire 4th quarter off the clock on one drive when you're behind.

Wommack Was Worse Than Grubb

When you watch the film, a lot of the offensive playcalls were actually there, and the players (particularly the OL and WRs) just failed to do their job.

With Wommack, the defensive playcalling the last 2 games has been completely indefensible. We never put more than 7 in the box, even when they have 9-10 dudes in tight and they're running down our throats.

re: The truth about Alabama

Exactly. If you just ignore the fact that Alabama has won more championships by far than any other college football program, and that they're top 5 in every statistical category measuring historical success, they really haven't been that good.

Nice take
Damn you know the season is cooked when people start talking about the strength coach
DeBoer and Grubb are as closely philosophically aligned as Saban and Kirby.

If you want to fire Grubb, we might as well fire DeBoer if we're being honest.
quote:

We literally had that last week

Last week was a shitfest of poor football on both sides, and both teams lost to mediocre teams this week for a reason.

I implore you to do as I said. Go watch the highlights of last weeks Georgia game, then compare it to the 2012 SECCG. The difference is night and day. We are watching terrible football.
quote:

So what's the answer?

Go and watch the highlights from the 2012 SECCG as I did last night.

Notice the intensity of the game.
Notice the intensity of the fans and the environment - the passion and overall energy.
Notice the high level of QB play, the NFL-lite feel of the game, the high level of defensive play, and the overall talent level. Seeing Haha Clinton-Dix flying around hunting heads. Seeing big Eddie Lacy go beast-mode. Watching AJ McCarron to Amari Cooper. Watching DJ Fluker and Chance Warmack bulldoze people.
Notice how much better the announcers and production was.

Realize that it's all gone.
What we have now is merely a shell of what cfb used to be.

Find something better to do with your Saturdays.
Saban never allowed OCs to completely take over the offense. They had to run the Saban offense, and add their own flair to it.

That being said, Grubb probably would've been asked to leave after one year.

It’s that pitiful imo

It's horrific.

This coaching staff is letting us all down, and it's really sad to see.

I think we could all live with the results at this point except that our team looks like a discombobulated pile of shite every single year with no offensive identity.

Maybe the detractors have always been right, and he needs to go coach in a less physical league. In 3 years to this point with 3 pretty good QBs in different ways, the offense has looked HORRIBLE, and every loss is due to our offense looking the way it looked today - clueless, lifeless, and utterly incompetent.

I think it's worth noting that Milroe looked considerably worse in year 2 under DeBoer than year 1 under Saban.
