re: Kelly’s successful career was

Or maybe it’s that Kelly is absolutely the most uninspiring coach in a top 10 coaching job and recruits aren’t going to come, wallets aren’t gonna open, and players aren’t going to play for him unless he’s a winner. And from day 1 here he has been a short coming loser with excuses. Welp, now there aren’t any. He could cover that up to some extent playing at ND pre NIL but in the SEC that just doesn’t fly. Especially today’s game
re: In the unlikely event that BK is fired, who are some possible coaching cand.? I’ll start….

Gruden but we’re so under the gun now we can’t afford any type of risk. Hell Kiffin has a better team than us again with less resources and we’re still saying he’s risky.
Gruden has personality that could pull players / inspire the kids and some actual football IQ to back it up. I’d be way more intrigued to see what he could do with 3-4 years than 3-4 more years of Kelly, or quite a few of the same recycled college coach names. Dude wants to coach too. Id at least see how low you could get him on a deal!

People would argue the state Saban left the program in was worlds better than O. And that’s right. The problem is Kelly has had 4 years. You’re never starting at true 0 at a place like LSU with the resources and brand we have. 4 years in and when he pushed his chips in we’re sitting here wondering how many more games we’re going to lose and how we can buy the guy out.
We’re in a TEMU Les Miles era now. But for a higher price. And he doesn’t even have a natty to coast on.

Kelly thought he was big braining this whole rebuild with his narcissistic self and playing the long game.. Its been really quite humorous to see other coaches reach a better outcome than Kelly has in a fraction of the time. His excuses have run out and he no longer has the past to blame and he DIDNT have the answers like he sold Woodward and the fan base his first few years. He's acted as though he's building a dynastic program and here we are on the outside looking in on the playoff picture by mid October 4 years into the creation of his opus.
Gotta move on, dudes a lame duck

re: I’ve hated on Josh Pate a lot this year. He’s nails it here.

It's OK to give Kelly credit for doing something good or correcting a mistake while also slamming him for doing something bad.
What in the world is this kind of thinking...? The bar was set so low he walked into a limpdick program and just about any actual HC in college ball could improve on what we were slipping into. The reality is its never been more clear we are FIRMLY a mediocre football team under Kelly. Thats not what the school or the fanbase signed up for when they hired him for that ridiculous contract. Say what you will about Miles but he got us a NC AND the players carried the man off the field. Could you ever in your wildest dreams see the players doing that with Kelly? I would want to wash my hands even after shaking hands with the dude. much less hoisting his fat saddlebags up on my shoulders

I would be infinitely more interested in LSU football with Gruden at HC and I could say that before or after this 2025 season. Kelly is boring and soul-less. Why the hell would any college kid want to play for him unless they getting paid big.
re: At a MINIMUM, LSU will have a new OC next year…so who are the top candidates?
Posted by FireTigerfly on 10/19/25 at 5:51 pm to Batiger53
Gruden at OC and when Baker gets poached this offseason for a low-mid tier HC shot and Kelly fails hiring a decent DC / rebuilding the defense Gruden begins his tenure mid season 2026 after Kelly gets sacked ??

I could see that in the sense of resume. But Bill seems like the grandpa everyone is either afraid of / grossed out by while Gruden is like the fun uncle. Personality of Gruden just seems like a better fit for modern college ball
Why not…?

Why not Gruden? I feel like he gets the fan base down here. Old school guy with a sharp offensive mind.
Actually seems like a blend of experience that can also get it done in the NIL era cause players would gravitate to his personality and football chops. Maybe he wouldn’t require top dollar. At this point anything fills me with more hope than Kelly’s lame shite but just haven’t seen Gruden mentioned since the last round of hiring.
