Leaving Austin Simmons off of this is a joke.

I so hope you are right about this.
non-SEC schools I have hatred for (in order of visceral reaction to the mention of each)...

1 kU
2 Ohio State
3 Michigan
4 Notre Dame
5 Miami
6 Nebraska
7 Illinois

Those in common with what almost everyone else has said are OhioState, Mich, Notre Dame and Miami. I admit there is some envy involved here, but mostly I have major disdain for arrogance.

For kU - I realize this matters to only 1/16th of the SEC, but there is a LOT of hatred for kU amongst Mizzou fans. I mean a LOT.

Illinois and Nebraska are personal, geographic/family rivalry based hatred for me (well, with Nebraska there is also that arrogance thing again).
Or just about anywhere really.

I can't verify the source of this - as it is from an audio clip a friend forwarded. I don't even know who was doing the talking, it sounded like maybe the morning after STL guys - they claimed and referred to Gabe DeArmond and said the info was from a Donor who was "mentoring" Ahmad Hardy and was "with" him (I assume at the hospital, not the concert). For what it is worth...

- Bullet went through his wallet (did not say what pocket the wallet was in)
- It was a "full metal jacket" bullet
- It did penetrate to the femur, then ricocheted further into soft tissue
- An otho surgeon "repaired" the femur (no specifics on what that meant)
- Another surgeon cleared and reparied the soft tissue damage
- It missed his femural artery by about 1/4"
- It did not reach vital organs (they specfically said it missed colon/bladder)
- It did not hit the sciatic nerve (which could have been really bad)
- They said wait at least 4 weeks before even starting to think about timing for return, but that he should be able to fully recover

Not a doctor - but pretty sure the sciatic nerve runs down the back side, the femural artery is in the front, and the colon/bladder are in the lower abdomen/pelvic cavity - so the fact they referenced all of those makes me concerned it bounced around quite a bit. Of course, this could all be BS.
Looks fantastic - I would prefer on campus (may not be feasible for OU I don't know), but I do like that they carried the architecture from your campus into this project.

Mixed private/public developments like this offering more of a destination/ entertainment district (Ballpark Village in St Louis and Texas Live in Arlington are examples where pro teams have done this) seems to be the current trend.

A while back, Mizzou issued a request for proposals for mixed private/public developments for several areas of campus - chief among those the area surrounding the "athletic campus", which currently has few if any entertainment, restaurant, bar, lodging options. I've heard through the grapevine they want to demolish the Hearnes Center as it is a very large, very expensive building to maintain - and it sits centrally right next to the football stadium, arena (basketball/gymnastics), and softball park. Lord knows we need a new Baseball stadium too. No idea where that all stands, hopefully it gets queued up after the current stadium renovations.

Easiest class I ever took was a sociology class. Honestly, basket weaving would be more difficult,

St Louis is always with Memphis, Chicago, And Detroit, and Oakland for deadliest cities in the USA it seems..

I'm not going to argue St. Louis does not have a problem, it most certainly does and it needs to get fixed. But, one thing to consider when looking at per capita rates is St. Louis (the city) is independent of St. Louis County, and has a compartively small population compared to other big cities (St Louis city has around 280,000 population, probably less than that in reality). By itself it is almost always in the top 2 or 3 year in and year out.

However, if you combine St. Louis City and St. Louis County the total population is a bit over 1.2 million. The combined per capita homicide rate of St. Louis city and county is around 16 per 100,000 people. Similar to Dallas or Phoenix. Of course, that number is still way too high.

Investigation & Arrests

Formal Arrests:
The three 19-year-olds taken into custody at the scene—Landice Magee, Jvon Sibley, and Alvin Peyton—have been officially booked.Current Status: They are currently being held at the Jones County Juvenile Detention Center / Adult facility on hold for another agency while Laurel investigators finalize local shooting charges.

Bystander Status:
Family and close sources report that Hardy was an innocent bystander. He was leaving the venue when a physical altercation erupted in the crowd, leading to multiple cars and individuals being struck by gunfire.

Medical PrognosisExpected Recovery:
Doctors indicate the bullet missed all vital organs and major arteries in his leg.Timeline Update: While he is mobile, alert, and expected to make a full recovery, medical staff noted it will take about one month of healing before they can accurately assess whether he will be physically cleared to play football during the 2026 season.

Note that part about being a bystander makes me hopeful that he was... but the source is "Family and close sources", so not sure what that means.

Any reports on anyone else being shot?

What I saw says there were 2 victims (Hardy being one). No details on if they were random or direclty involved in some altercation at this point.... update, now I'm seeing 3 victims mentioned.
And they will send each school a participation banner to hang from the rafters.

He got waitlisted because UGA saw his admissions profile and knew he was capable of getting into better schools.

This is accurate, in fact I think it was actually the recruiting folks at Univ of Georgia that explained this to us when we visited with my daughter. Schools are finding that while they wait out decisions for the really high achieving / highest qualified students (who they likely will not get) - they are losing others that are almost as qualified because they are waitlisted. Probably have teams of data scientists and Phd's in statistics cranking through this stuff to optimize the offers they decide to make. This is another reason they do the early acceptance process - to try and sort some of that out early in the process.

Another great movie that wouldn't see the light of day in today's world.
quote:

If there is not that many applying then it will drive your acceptance rate up.

This.... a major driver of low acceptance rate is a high number of applications. There are only so many spots available. Schools tout exclusivity based on acceptance rate, but in a lot of cases they inflate their application numbers by making it easy (and cheap) to apply with low/no app fees, test optional standards, no essay requirements, and use of the common app. The more applicants, the lower the acceptance rate. (NOTE: This is not the case with Vandy - and probably not with some of the other "top" schools - but pretty quickly it becomes a factor for the rest of us. It is really easy for graduating seniors to blast out a dozen or so applications. In 2000, the average number of applications sent by a student was between 1-4, now it is 6-7.

And where do they blast those applications to? Well Perception is a big driver. This is why football is so damn important to schools. Winning football grabs the attention and sounds like a lot of fun for an 18 year old. I see lots and lots of kids in St. Louis who have no connection what-so-ever wearing gear for Alabama, Auburn, Texas, LSU, etc. Very few wearing Iowa, Purdue or Indiana (3 schools that have a solid alumni base here - but not surprisingly the Hoosier gear is much more common this year). Location/Good weather is also a factor. Southern schools are getting a lot of applications from out of state, just like the population in general is migrating south. Many of those applicants don't have much chance of acceptance - but they have nothing to lose by applying.
Damn cancer sucks, that is terrible news.

Wasn't the '07 game played at Arrowhead Stadium?

Yes, game was at Arrowhead
Can't say I've been in a situation that escalated to where I had to intervene in a physical confrontation (nor would I be physically capable of stopping one if I did) - but I have asked fans, hell even some friends, to tone it down a bit. I also have apologized on their behalf a few times and if at or near our tailgate i will offer the opposing fan a beer or some eats.

I learned this as a student at Mizzou (Big8 days, that is how old I am). I travelled to an away basketball game at Iowa State. We were getting it pretty good from some drunk the whole first half. Another fan came down at halftime from several rows up and apologized and asked that we please not think all ISU fans act like that. About the same time, the guy harrassing us disappeared. Pretty sure the fan who apologized also notified security and got the guy "relocated".
Not the picture I wanted, this one shows Charles Johnson's "second" effort after he was down... on 5th down! His shoulders hit the ground first - and the ball was clutched tight to the number 4 on his chest. This was taken after he arched his back and extended the ball over the goal line.

At this point there are only like 1-2 Big XII opponents I would even care about.

What about Cincinnati? Or Houston? Or Central (or is it South) Florida? Or TCU? Or West Virgina? No? You are right - this is not the Big12 we left behind. Although they did at least add a few enticing travel destinations in Utah (might get some skiing in - won't be games on Sunday) and Arizona.

I think the article is suggesting that "conferences" should be regional, but what he is suggesting (and others have too) is essetially forced geographic alignment, which will in essence eliminate conferences (or at least remove any/all financial advantages a strong conference provides) I think a problem Mizzou fans have is we just have never really embraced being one of the "haves" - which we are now, but we wouldn't be in this regional model.
