Planning for the next episode to cover what happened after shoot-down. I think Episode 4 will cover Wild Weasel ops.
Exactly! Part of the story in the documentary episodes. That said, they were quite capable fighter-bombers and I believe that the story would have been different using coherent, military-outcome-driven (i.e. destroy the enemy?) strategies.

It is interesting to note, that although the Thud was not known as a dogfighter, it (the pilots) is credited with 27 air to air MiG kills. Several Thud drivers had more than one MiG kill. That 20mm M61 Vulcan autocannon could apparently be quite effective in the A to A role.
LBJ and McNamara ran the war based on domestic and international political drivers. The men fighting the war were not allowed to fight to win. An old story--still relevant.
The Thud was asked to fly into the most defended skies in the history of warfare--all the while being restricted from hitting SAM and AAA sites for fear of provoking the USSR and China. As a result, almost half of the F-105 inventory was lost during the war. This aspect is covered at length in Episode 2.
Why post? Why not?

I've found that folks here on the Political Talk board generally like the Cold War Era video content. Feel free to disregard?
Episode 2 is Live!

Missed Episode 1? Now's your chance to catch up before diving into Episode 2 of our F-105 series! The war in the skies over Vietnam wasn't just fought with bombs and bullets, it was fought with politics, rules, and impossible restrictions.

In Episode 2, we uncover:
Operation Steel Tiger & Rolling Thunder  missions flown at the edge of survival
Ludicrous Rules of Engagement  when pilots were told what they couldn't hit more often than what they could
Political Meddling from Washington  bombing targets chosen in D.C. instead of the battlefield
And when a Thunderchief was fatally hit, ejection wasn't the end of the story…
…it was just the beginning.

Thanks for the reply. Your facts are correct. And they are covered in the video.

Sometimes, a short blurb written to persuade folks to watch uses abbreviated terminology.

New Video - Cold War Year By Year: 1951

As the conflict in Korea began it's second year, the the war of fluid maneuver seen in 1950, had devolved into series of seesaw gains and setbacks along the 38th Parallel. This "don't win, but don't lose" philosophy came to characterize the ongoing and bloody stalemate between communist Chinese and UN Forces. A hero was fired for defiance. Punitive postwar restrictions on industry were lifted in West Germany. Promises of assistance to any country that opposed communism were solidified into US law--and a music phenomenon was born that would would come to play a major role in the ongoing culture war between the totalitarian east and the free west.

The Cold War Year By Year: New Video!

Time for a new video...1947 IS LIVE!

As the former Allied powers begin their occupation of East and West Germany, the Western democracies and the Soviet bloc create programs and agencies to counter perceived threats. India's independence from British rule showcases a desire for Cold War non-alignment. China and French Indochina become open battlegrounds for communist insurgencies. Meanwhile, Roswell, New Mexico becomes an early example of US government disinformation and Cold War paranoia after debris from a flying object is found on Mac Brazel's ranch. A UFO? A weather balloon?

Pershing or Lance? I was slated to go Lance but it was dropped after the START treaty was signed, I think. Ended up going 13B Cannon Crewman, lol.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away--a buddy and I worked together in TV production at KSLA in Shreveport.
He had been a CAV Trooper with 11 Armored Cavalry Regiment near Fulda, West Germany in the late 1970s. I had been an Army Field Artilleryman controlling war games in California with "Kraznovians" in the mid 1980s.
41 years after our TV production time, we are embarking on a new multi-media adventure. A history-based YouTube channel devoted to chronicle the Cold War.

Besides the year by year nature of the channel, we will also be exploring other areas of Cold War history. Things like (in no particular order) Vietnam; Espionage and Spy Scandals; The Space Race; Korea; Other proxy wars in Asia, Africa; South/Central America and the Middle East; and a multitude of other possible subjects.

We'd be obliged if you'd take a look at the Channel Trailer/Chapter 1/Chapter2 below--and like/subscribe to the Channel if you like what you see? Thanks!
