Any chance of App. State moving up to Div 1A?
Nothing formal has been announced, but some indicating factors that appear we are looking to make the move. The Chancellor and AD have both been asked about this, and each time they are asked the continuously dodge the question, but say something to the effect of "Appalachian is in a great growth phase, and we have major plans in the works. Stick around and see what happens." That sorta statements....

We absolutely don't want him to get hurt. He is critical to our success, and quite frankly, beating LSU and losing to LSU get us to the same place in FCS. Next week the polls will come out, and there is a pretty darn good chance we will still be ranked #1 in FCS. The voters know we weren't supposed to win and that we can't match you guys, especially in the trenches. It is way more important for us to get the reps in against REALLY tough teams so that it makes it at least APPEAR a million times easier when we do play the likes of James Madison and Georgia Southern, etc.

Dropped passes really really hurt y'all. Not sure if they heard footsteps, aren't that great, or were just a little off yesterday.
My honest opinion, I think our receivers were scared of the big hit, especially Coco Hillary (#6). Every time the ball was thrown his direction he was already looking to dodge the hit instead of catching the ball. I guess that I hope that is the case, because in FCS play they won't be as scared of the big hitting safeties, and display more confidence.
I think the other reason could possibly be the amount of sweat on their hands. I realize they were wearing gloves, but you still have a little movement of those gloves after a lot of sweat gets down in em.....

....LSU for the good time in Baton Rouge/New Orleans. Just got back from Baton Rouge (11 hour drive turned into a 14 hour drive because of evacuation traffic....) and I just wanted to stop by and thank you guys for a great time. Granted we weren't happy we didn't get to really experience gameday at LSU, but we had a great time nonetheless (minus the loss of course). We were treated very well by LSU fans and got some great tips from here and from LSU fans on Bourbon Street Friday.
As for the game, how many dropped passes did we have? I could probably think of 10 off the top of my head. That REALLY hurt us, coupled with the fact that your two DE's had an excellent pass rush which kept Armanti in the pocket, which is NOT what we want. Goes to show us all that if we had an offensive line like you guys do, Armanti would probably be able to do so many more things. I was happy we didn't turn the ball over. I definitely will eat my crow, cause I though the game was gonna be closer. I also imagine a couple of LSU guys I talked to will have their crow after telling us the App players would not be able to withstand the weather or weren't going to have enough conditioning and that'd we be cramping up way before LSU players. Between that and what appears to be no injuries for us, I am very happy with us, that was my goal coming in. An injury for us is really important because of the lack of depth we have.
All in all - great experience and I really hope that you guys will have us back sometime. I know you don't like playing teams from our division, but really love to be able to come see venues like this and enjoy the experience with our team being involved. I'll be back by to check in from time to time. Thanks guys!

My arse and 10 buddies will be there as well.....no doubt. Possibly leave town after the game and drive a couple of hours towards Atlanta and spend the night somewhere....but we'll see. A lot depends on what happens over the next 24 hours with that puppy down in the Gulf.....
re: LSU supposed to announce something at 4pm

Worst case scenario, the game is moved up to 11 am, or moved to another venue further inland. The game will not be canceled, and the game will be played this weekend. The moving of North Texas to a date in November would not be what LSU or ASU wants. We made you move the North Texas game because we wouldn't play you prior to playing James Madison (yes, that's right, we made you).
I think if anything it'll be moved to 11 am, but I want it to stay exactly where it is at.

re: Did I just hear that Boone N.C. got 1 foot of rain?
Posted by AppState005 on 8/28/08 at 11:50 am to AppState09
Yeah most areas west of Charlotte have seen between 4-6" of rain the last about 3-4 days. Whoever said a foot of rain, it must be a very isolated incident, if true at all. There would be a lot more water on my high school football field if a foot of rain was dumped in the Boone area.....
About 3 years ago remnants of a hurricane put my high school football field about 12 feet under water, first three rows of seats were underwater. That was with about a foot of rain in the mountains. Craziness....nothing like that this time around. Course our high school football field is right off the Catawba River so that doesn't help.....

re: Does Appy have a humidity generator?

I pity the guys who think that only the LSU football team know what hot and humid feels like, and they are the only men on earth that can withstand such conditions........

No one is "used to" or "immune" to heat...but I think what they are saying is that these guys haven't lived in Boone their entire lives or anything and they are from places where it gets hot. They know exactly what it's like to play in similar conditions, especially if they played in high school.
Precisely.
re: Does Appy have a humidity generator?
Posted by AppState005 on 8/27/08 at 11:03 pm to Tigerark
What I think is that all these guys grew up in areas where the average temperature is 5 degrees below yours with a 40-50% humidity rating. They are used to it......
re: Who will have the best game on Saturday?
Posted by AppState005 on 8/27/08 at 11:02 pm to Suntiger
My vote would be for Pierre Banks and I think we'll see a good showing from Coco....
Pierre Banks = LB
Coco Hillary - WR
Other than that the obvious answer would be Armanti of course, but I think Armanti is going to let them focus on stopping his run and it'll make LSU's fresh secondary match up against our WR's one on one.

First off, for everyone whining about the temperature, don't go if you're going to bitch.
Secondly, for everyone else whose saying our players are gonna cramp up in the 2nd quarter and die of heat exhaustion by the 3rd, don't be ridiculous. One of those players grew up in the mountains.....most of the men on that team grew up on conditions much the same as yours. Armanti lived in South Carolina, where the average temperature ain't that much different and the humidity ain't either. Same goes for the rest of those guys. Just because they live on a mountain for 2 years doesn't mean they don't know about heat and humidity.
Will we tire faster in warmer more humid weather? Yeah, it's a no-brainer. But our guys know that weather just like your guys do.....
Bunch of crybabies about the weather down there....grow a pair.

Actually, I believe our staff respects your program and respects traditions. One of our coaches has ties to LSU and I'm sure he had a say in it, but I think it's just the nature of the university to do that. You guys moved the game up to help us out, we'll wear black and let you wear white. I know back in 05' when we played ya'll our student body raised a bunch of money and presented a check at halftime to ya'll, so I believe both of our programs administrations have a lot of respect for our respective universities.
re: Why not just move the game to Boone?
Posted by AppState005 on 8/27/08 at 8:01 pm to Rebel
I don't want the game moved. I don't wanna hear the whining and bitching from Tiger fans when my boys come in and lay pipe to their team.
Just messing - I think it'll be a score of 28-17 in LSU's favor

Not to burst your bubble, but App message boards have been saying App is wearing black for like a month now.....we all know app fans were on this message board saying the game was a done deal 2 weeks before any LSU fan would say it was done.....
App will be in black....it makes us look faster...hahaha

The whole idea that App State will wilt due to the "Louisiana heat and humidity" is a bit overstated.
Yes, typically, La. is a bit hotter and humid than NC. But don't let that fool you.
Last year, NC had 29 straight days of 95+ degree heat.
And before one of you idiots out there has a ranter-cow, yes, I understand that La. may have had 33 95+ degree days in a row. But the fact is, NC is in the South, therefore it draws that same Gulf moisture and heat.
The truth is, LSU will win because:
1. Michigan last year
2. We're LSU and they are ASU.
Not to mention we have several key players coming from South Carolina where it's just as miserable heat and humidity wise as it is in Baton Rouge.....
Boone, NC doesn't see that humidity, but these boys grew up in it and it ain't gonna bother them. Hell, I'd be willing to bet money that an LSU player sucks down some oxygen before an App player does...
