re: Trump Lawyer Alina Habba Torches Letitia James in Courthouse Broadside.

This has unfortunately been Trump's biggest issue. He surrounds himself with bimbo real estate lawyers instead of scholarly ones.
If Convicted of Georgia State Charges, Could Trump Avoid the Georgia State Penitentiary?
Posted by Shakey on 10/19/23 at 6:52 pm
Trump could be imprisoned up to 20 years if convicted in Georgia State Court for the charges he was arraigned on.
Many here believe there will be some miraculous intervening cause that will disrupt reality, but he is facing trial in a very hostile district against evidence that has been reviewed by a grand jury. The possibility of state prison time is real.
Don't think so? See Edwin Edwards.
I don't see how they could keep him in any cell except solitary given his status as former president. I am aware of no laws that would allow him to serve his time in a federal facility. I am certain the Georgia State prison is as unforgiving as Angola.
I wish we weren't in this position at all. Having to even debate this question reminds me we are in dark days not seen since Watergate or the Kennedy assassination.

It's not as easy as "they voted for this, they deserve to die."
Remember, Israel's treatment of innocent civilians here will define this conflict. Violation of humanitarian rights will just give Arabs an excuse to continue their jihad against the West.
It may not affect you, but it will affect your grandchildren.

A clown like Jordan doesn't know the meaning of compromise, which is the problem in D.C.
Scalise would have compromised and Congress could get back to working for you and I. But that's why the MAGA republicans blocked his vote. They want to burn it all down.

Remember the negative ramifications of any mass displacement of Palestinians will trickle down to Europe first, but eventually the U.S.
A Civilian Evacuation of Gaza Will Never Work if You Understand the History of Israel
Posted by Shakey on 10/14/23 at 7:43 am
Palestinian civilians will likely not evacuate through any humanitarian corridors Israel or the regional Arab partners establish. They believe that Israel’s intention is to carry out another nakba, or “catastrophe”: the forced displacement of Palestinians from Israel during the 1948 war.
They do not believe (nor should they believe) that they will be allowed to return to Gaza after the fighting. This is why the Biden administration’s push for a humanitarian corridor to allow Gazan civilians to flee the fighting is such a uniquely bad idea.
To the extent that a humanitarian corridor accomplishes anything, it would be to accelerate the depopulation of Gaza and the creation of a new wave of permanent refugees. It would also offer the right-wing extremists in Netanyahu’s government a clear roadmap for doing the same in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
So now the conundrum is: how does Israel defeat Hamas without an invasion, which will undoubtedly cost thousands of civilian lives?

I'll re-post my hypothetical from earlier for discussion:
President Biden and his Democrat administration order a secret attack on Russia. Russia responds by seiging America with a barrage of indiscriminate rockets and missiles in preparation for a full-scale ground invasion. The Biden administration orders a stop on all Americans attempting to flee the U.S. and avoid the war. There is no way out and all civilians and their families are forced to remain in the conflict zone.
Although Russia has an obligation to mitigate civilian casualties, they use the same rationale you proposed. Does that change the calculation?

I think we all agree W. made an error that will haunt us for generations to come.
From the NSC this evening:
quote:
“We are working closely with Egypt and Israel to see if we can develop safe-passage options so that those civilians in Gaza who want to leave can leave safely,” White House National Security Council Spokesman John Kirby told The Wall Street Journal. “This isn’t their fault. They didn’t cause this. And if they want to leave, they should be allowed to leave.”

I understand your point. Consider this hypothetical:

The Biden administration orders a stop on all Americans attempting to flee the U.S. and avoid the war. They could have prevented this from happening. They could stop whatever is going on right now. And they could get out.
But they are staying there.
I also doubt 1.5 million civilians knew Hamas was about to attack Israel. The U.S. doesn't even share military operations with the public.
 He did say they were "very smart."

This is Gaza we are talking about. If you living in that terrorist hotbed you knew this was coming. Israel will bomb away.
Civilians have been forced to remain in Gaza. Securing passage to leave is very difficult.

You can't just go kill innocent people and then run and hide behind "humanitarian principles" when you violate them daily.
How should Israel respond to the civilians?
