re: Can you truly change and reshape your body in your 50's?

thanks everyone for their advice. Sometimes you just need to hear it from other people.
Based on the comments, I am starting a high protein regimen and eating cleaner starting Monday. I will up my steps to 10k. I will start the Boron supplements.
I've set a simple goal for myself, lose 10 to 15 lbs for the month of May. Hopefully, this will set me up for a long-term change.

I was on TRT before, but had respiratory issues as a side effect.
Yes, I have sleep apnea, and use a CPAP machine. I generally get good sleep.
It is a lack of motivation, but my energy levels are zapped. Sometimes I am falling asleep at work (desk job). I get between 7 and 8 hours of sleep per night.

Can you truly change and reshape your body in your 50's?

I'm looking for some motivation, i'm sort of skinny fat. Large gut, but muscular and low body fat in arms, chest and legs. I was a competitive powerlifter off and on for years. 6 foot 5, currently at around 300 lbs.
I walk around 5,000 to 7,000 steps per day, work out with high reps on basic lifts and go as heavy as I can. My motivation is zero and I do have a number of health problems, including diabetes.
I'm sick and tired and really want to change my health dramatically. I'm a veteran under VA care, so I don't have the best doctors. I would like to lose 100 lbs, but i'm not sure if that is possible because i carry a lot of muscle mass from my powerlifting days.
Supplements? My testosterone levels are 250 ish and I believe I have thyroid issues, but the VA won't do much about it. I really want to make positive changes, but not sure if I have the ability or motivation or knowledge to do it.

wanting to sell all of my older consoles
Posted by El Gallo on 3/28/25 at 12:40 pm
I decided to clear out most of my games and gaming consoles. My recent experience with Ebay has been horrific (really high fees and people cancelling too much). I don't think they are worth that much but would like to get some vacation money out of it if I could.
It's mainly GameCube, ps2, ps3, ps4, Wii, Wii U. I only have a few games with each of those consoles.
Should I try to sell it as a bundle? Any auctions sites besides Ebay?

re: Anyone here marry a foreign woman?

Married a South American woman. Beautiful (no pics), loyal and traditional.
I don't speak Spanish and her English is bad, so that has been a struggle.
I had to up my game, get in better shape and update my wardrobe. She cooks and takes care of the house. My friends can't believe how well she cooks and caters to me.
Overall? 9 out of 10, because any arguments we have are brutal

Starting a janitorial/maid business
Posted by El Gallo on 12/27/24 at 9:49 am
So my wife is a latina cleaning machine and she has worked in janitorial services for some big companies.
There is huge turnover in those companies and the pay is low. I had the crazy idea that we should open our own cleaning service. I would rather we try to control our destiny moving forward.
I will be setting this up as an LLC, and fully insured. I am on nextdoor and several neighborhood associations and several local facebook groups.
I know that word of mouth is important, I will be primarily focusing on targeted facebook ads to get started and to try and build a client base.
I am in the South Charlotte, NC area. Yes, I understand competition is fierce. Is there anything that I may not be understanding in this venture? I owned a couple of businesses in the past and had a successful gymnastics school until Covid wiped out our business.

Thoughts on prepping garlic?
Posted by El Gallo on 11/12/24 at 11:38 am
I've been cooking my whole life but have a bland palette. I'm starting to get more involved in spices, rubs, sauces, etc., because I am newly married, and I want to prepare quality food for my new wife. She is also a part time chef at a restaurant.
She is a firm believer in fresh garlic, finely chopped by hand. I usually buy the jar of garlic in the refrigerator section. I've also noticed the garlic press and the garlic slicers.
What is everyone's opinion on fresh garlic, versus the refrigerated version?
Hand chopped versus a garlic press?

potential first-time home buyer

I am in my 50's and just got married. I am a veteran, and my income is around 90k.
My wife's income is not very high, maybe around 30K.
Navy federal quoted me 4.75% on a 30-year mortgage. I am looking at a couple of new builds, one is a townhome (220k) and the other is a single-family home (285k). No children.
Wife is from South America and owns a home there. I figured if we buy a home here and retire in 10 to 12 years, we can cash out and live in South America. She wants to rent and doesn't want the obligation of a mortgage. Her home in South America is paid for.
Rent in my area is comparable to a mortgage.
Any advice on buying versus renting? Seems like a no brainer

re: Simone Biles says she ‘broke down’ after husband Jonathan Owens’ viral interview

I've been a gymnastics coach for 30 years, and Biles absolutely choked. She was losing and looking for a way out. When she started wearing the GOAT icon on her leotard, I knew she was a head case.
I've rarely had any of my athletes have emotional problems before a meet, and if they did, they immediately withdrew from the meet, and we used a reserve. Never had an athlete quit during an event because of mental problems. Gymnasts, by and large, are very narcissistic (they kind of have to be), but Biles started reading her own press and believed that she was bigger than the sport.

How important is portion control?
Posted by El Gallo on 4/15/24 at 1:50 pm
Im trying to lose weight and keep my protein intake high. I eat a lot of ground turkey and grilled tilapia. I usually eat those with steamed broccoli and brown rice.
Is it better to eat smaller meals than 1 big meal? Ill usually eat the whole package (1 lb) of turkey or up to 4 tilapia fillets at a time. Should i break those up into 2 meals?
Im 290, 6 foot 5 and a former powerlifter. I have a large frame. My cholesterol numbers are very good. Im worried that the large portions will have a negative effect on my overall health. Im lifting hard and walking a lot. Its causing me to be very hungry

re: Small business owners

I did it in 2016. I never worked harder in my life. Constant calls, trying to come up with advertising strategies and marketing solutions. I was answering emails for hours. I had to do most of the actual work, because I couldn't find competent help. When I would train someone, they would quit a few days later. I wasn't able to pay myself for 3 years.
However, it was very successful. Covid and government restrictions killed us, and we were forced to close last year.

re: Biden announces more college debt forgivness

This is smoke and mirrors.
As someone who has been paying on my student loan debt for a while, the potato is doing this to appease the progressive base. It's nothing new, and most people won't qualify.
Student loan repayment is set up on a 10-year repayment plan. If you make your payments for 10 years, generally speaking, the loans are paid off anyways. It's deception

I'm 55 and alone. Been trying to date for the past 10 years and it has been an absolute shitefest. I am also completely miserable.

re: Studying used to be so easy in school.

I got my Associates degree in 1998. I then went into the workforce. Decided to go back and complete my Bachelors degreee a couple of years ago. Graduated last December. I'm 55.
I had to come home and create a little study area, no music or tv, and dedicated 2 hours a day to homework. It worked for me.
One difference that I did notice was that college coursework was very difficult in the 90's. I breezed through this time because of DEI. Most students were triggered by something in the material, so the professor would cancel the test or cancel a research paper. It was nuts.

Wanting to upgrade an Amish building

LINK
I ordered this building from the Amish builders a couple of years ago. It's mainly been a catch all for all my unnecessary crap.
I've decided to turn it into a workout/man cave area. I want to start with the floor before I do anything else. I'm guessing this is just a sub-floor? Would I add 1/2 plywood over top of this?
Also, I want to wire it for electricity, as I have a secondary power pole at the house (about 20 feet away).
Last, I want to insulate it. My questions for this board:
1.) 1/2 inch or 3/4 plywood for the floor? Non-OSB board?
2.) Can I find someone to wire it, with a breaker box, without a permit? I have the power pole 20 feet away; I was wondering if it can be tied into that without permits and such. Power pole was used for air compressors and welding machine in the past.
3.) Insulation. Would rolled insulation work, insulation board, or spray foam? Or any combination of those?
Any input would be appreciated.

I just pre-ordered the ps5 on playstation direct. It is the COD MW 2 bundle. I am not into first person shooter games. Got it mainly for driving games.
This bundle comes with a game voucher.
Is there any way that i can trade or sell the game voucher?
