Be aggressive but don't turn it over

Posted by lsugumbeaux on 9/19/16 at 7:04 pm
Doesn't work that way. Turnovers are magnified in ultra-conservative offenses. You can't expect to play mistake-free football and play aggressive. One of our great national championship baseball teams used to flush a gimmick toilet in the dugout when they made a mistake in the game. The symbolism was to move on, forget about it, and stay aggressive. If this talented team were allowed to be coached and play with this type of attitude....well. BTW Louisville turned it over against Florida state. Who knows how bad they could have beat em.
Never knew which side of the formation to line up on? Really? Just curious to how you know this?
Of course, Ive read the rant enough to know this was coming...fair enough! Been on since just 2011 and you have already posted 22,000 times....and to top it off, you are a self proclaimed ULM fan! Yes....I definitely bow to you!
Where you at the game? I was! Quinn blocked throughout the game. The disappointment is in the fact that the best receiver at the game was not thrown to. He dominated practice all week. But of course you are an expert I'm sure.....way to support a futuretiger! Go ahead, tell me how you made all state and sprung tons of TD's.
Great Work! Love watching the hype videos.
This ain't 8year old T-ball. This is adult shite with real money and real lives. CLM can't and
quote:

shouldn't be worried about a young adult's feelings, sorryn JMO

WOW!

Then why did CLM put JJ in to score in the Kentucky game to "lift his spirits?"

You know LM claps like that for his deaf brother, right?

More on this, please? Link, story ?

Tomorrow's Headlines will read?

OK TigerNation - Give your best prediction for tomorrow's Headlines.

Tiger's Put Boot Up Arky's _ _ _!
how about Rudy Macklin, Ethan Martin, Hi-C Carter....Man, what a great time for LSU Basketball! Thanks for bringing this up.
Good Stuff. I like this. What about sticking with what you originally calculated and adding the variable TOP.

Points Scored / yards / minutes = Explosiveness of Offense or should we say Explosiveness of Team since Defensive points are in these numbers.

LSU would be fourth in the BCS top ten by using this equation. Right behind Oregon,Houston,Okie state.

Disclaimer - quick calculations here.
Very Nice Work ! Really enjoyed digesting your breakdown. What about time of possession? How do you think this variable translates in your summary? Again, really good work.

re: did we punt Saturday?

Punt return average is now down to probably.....4 inches.

This team embraces opportunity!

Posted by lsugumbeaux on 11/21/11 at 8:35 am
From day one, this team does not fear failure, but rather, embraces opportunity. This team understands that adversity is necessary for greatness. This team welcomes it, embrasses it, and then kicks the shiite out of it. The Tigers will not fear losing Friday, but will cherish yet another moment for greatness! That is what champions do! Another reason why I love watching these guys play!

re: anybody have one of these?

Posted by lsugumbeaux on 11/21/11 at 8:27 am to
LSU needs a bigass spot light like this and shine into the night sky on Saturday nights. Got chills just thinkin' about this.
I agree. Mett definitely gives a true picture of Arky's offense. Of course with our talent levels, we can simulate anybody's offense, even Oregon's....remember.

re: RS needs more touches!

Been saying this since his freshman year!!
You are right. JJ should start against Auburn. You know, since it makes no difference.
Seriously, who saw that coming?
Got the chills reading this article. Can't wait for next week!

Quarterbacking with mirrors

Posted by lsugumbeaux on 9/5/11 at 10:50 am
Our style of play will not mesmarize the fanbase with stats that warrant accolades becoming of quarterbacks in trendy, high-octane systems. Saban has the same philosophy...and it seems to be winning. Ball control, dominate the line of scrimmage, play great defense, great on special teams, and pound the hell out of the running game. Ingram = Heisman. Mcelroy was solid. Mauck was solid. Flynn was solid.

We are running back U. We are D-line U. We are Cornerback U. Our philosophy is to have solid/average quarterback play...period. We turn 5-star quarterbacks into athletes (sheppard - and that is why Oregon's Thomas did not come to LSU)

The Intangibles

A qualitative assessment - beyond the stats: Sure the stats are there to address the lack of a passing game...noted, as well as film to pronounce the techinical aspects of Lee throwing off his back foot (or so it seems). But all great teams possess other qualities that never show up on the stat sheet. I am sure you noticed the following as did I.

We belonged on the national stage. This was evident from the beginning as CLM could not keep his troops from nearly trouncing him coming out of the tunnel. When championship teams perform, certain characteristics are always evident. These characteristics reveal themselves from year to year and from team to team that compete at a high level - a level high enough to win championships. First and most evident was the swagger. Not the overconfident, obnoxious brand, but the intimidating presense that expands as the game progresses. There existed an aura or glow of knowing that we are the better team. The players' mannerisims, gestures, intensity, and focus were revealed throughout the night on and off the field. CLM and the players are on the same page. All championship teams overcome adversity at some point. This adversity either strenghtens or conquers organizations. The LSU organization is strong. Interviews reveal statements of togetherness, camaraderie, focus, and preparation. There seemed to be no moments of indecision from the coaching staff. Sure, CLM has his eccentric values, but we are comforted in knowing that his approach is solid - quirkiness accepted. The competitive passion revealed itself quite often during the game: Lee chewing some Duck butt after a pile up, Mathieu bowing down to no one, intense physicality throughout, and a supreme presense with strong hints of humility. This team has the humility of a champion, a contender. Soundbites consistently revealed a want (CLM speak) to improve and get better. This team has an identity, a vision, a purpose. This team has a mental toughness necessary to respond to the adversity that rears its ugly head in every game and inevitably during every championship run.

And finally, this team has fun. They love to play football. They play for themselves, their families, thier coach, for LSU, for Louisiana, and for the tigernation.

Saturday night was fun...and that is not on a stat sheet.
I feel compelled to write this. Easier after a win of this magnitude, of course, but here it is.

Many years ago, Saban - while at LSU - was recruiting a player at my high school. I was thrilled to meet him and asked him if I could show him something in my office that I was extremely proud of. He walked into my office and I began to describe the meaning behind a picture frame displayed proudly on my wall. I told the short-version story of how my dad, my brother and myself attended the LSU-Alabama game when LSU defeated Alabama for the first time in Tiger stadium in 30 years (The Irony). My brother ordered a picture from Tiger Rag showing an aerial view of Tiger Stadium and a huge arrow showing where I sat with my Dad and Brother. My ticket stub was framed with the picture. My brother gave it to me as a Christmas present. All tiger fans, I am sure, can appreciate this special moment when you can fondly remember an LSU game with your Dad and family members. I told Coach Saban this quick story and how special of a moment that was for me. I basically thanked him. He looked at the picture and without saying a word...walked out of my office. I felt as if I was just waisting his time.

Fast forward to a couple years ago. It was summertime and I was at a baseball field watching my son play ball. Word spread that at the park that extremely hot day was Coach Les Miles. Sure enough, he was there watching his son play baseball. He was wearing shorts, a soaking wet t-shirt and had his shoes off, feet propped up on the chain-link fence. I waited for his son's game to finish, and then approached him, greeted him, and made a small request. You see, it was Father's Day, and I asked Les Miles that if I got my dad on the phone, would he wish my dad a "happy father's day?" Coach Miles looked at me and with intensity said, "Get him on the phone." I began dialing. My dad answered, and I said, "Dad, someone wants to talk to you." I handed Coach Miles the phone and he introduced himself, wished my dad a Happy Fathers Day, and went on to hold a conversation with him.

This morning I personally understand why the players want to play for coach Miles. For the same reason that I personally want him to succeed...because my father and I mattered to him on that extremely hot and humid summer day.

I want the Tigers to win and I know his job is to make sure that happens. But, no matter what happens - win or lose, eating grass or not - I will always be a fan of Les Miles, the man.
Well written article. One for the ages.
The psychology behind the negatiger inherently exists in the evolution of the board - "the rant"
To "rant" is to defame, fume, rave, harangue. Psychology reveals this is normal human behavior - a simple normal distribution. Segments of the board's distribution are positive, segments are peacemakers and interest seekers, and, of course, some segments are negative - thus negatigers. Negative comments are healthy components to any message board. This forum allows people to vent and officially release thoughts that we all have during the game or after the game.

If you don't have this distribution, then the board would not be very engaging. I love the balance of this board. That is why we all make it one of the best boards in the country. Instead of throwing out our tv sets, we can just get on the "rant" and "rant".
yeah, can't wait to see Russell Sheppard his senior year! Until then I guess we will just have to be happy to see glimpses.
I agree. It is time for an offensive scheme change to better suite our personnel and simplify. LESS is MORE. Paralysis by ANALYSIS comes to mind watching the keystone cop substitution patterns and illegal procedures that are obviously due to the hesitation with side-line checking and lack of rhythm from the play calling and confusion. We miss blocks, timing is off, etc.

Look what happened when we changed our defensive scheme.
Absolutely. this cool offensive feature is used by pro-style systems(high-octane offenses). I never see it used with strong I formations. It doesn't fit our overall scheme. It has got to go.
