As you confirmed "The transfer portal opens shortly after the season ends."
Does firing a coach after the season, and the time in hiring a new one, get you ready for a successful transfer portal effort?
With the new age of NIL, and short transfer portal periods, coaching changes will become more common mid-season. As an example, see what happened in football this past season?
For context check out the new NCAA proposed transfer portal changes here:

While LSU Basketball may not be revered by many in the way LSU Football is, two ELITE ICONs of the Sport, Shaq and Pistol Pete, were/are elite sports Legacies from LSU Basketball History. As a fanbase shouldn't we except better, shouldn't we hope and expect change from the new AD?

LSU Men's Basketball - Time to make a coaching change now?
Posted by brtiger09 on 1/10/26 at 1:34 pm
- Just One Person's Opinion -
At the outset, this has nothing to do with how you personally view Matt McMahon and/or whether Matt McMahon is a nice guy, but the handwriting is on the wall, and it is more about best timing for a change at this point:
A rationale for Change Now, instead of Waiting for the end of the Men's Basketball season:
(1) Any chance to save any good players for the next coach would be better served by making a change before the calendar squeeze for transfers at the end of the season, as well as building rapport with interim staff instead of the current coach. As an example, remember when the prior AD rashly and abruptly let go of Will Wade during the playoffs, the result was almost total loss of the roster. The problem here after (after multiple continuous bad seasons) may well be more coaching than player driven.
(2) Allows placement of an interim, who can assist in a fresh evaluation and hopefully different coaching style.
(3) Allows for an early start to identifying and working to find the new permanent Men's basketball coach for next year.
(4) Allows for the remaining players to play free of the pressure cooker of the pending termination at the end of the season.
(5) Also allows for a restart to the season.
(6) Allows for the final Woodward mis-step to be rectified in the eyes of the fan base, and restarts hope for the future.
(7) Stops the current downward spiraling trend. The current coach is a nice guy, but has had no real success after multiple seasons.
(8) This step would clearly demonstrate that the LSU Tiger Fanbase and Booster supporters that failed Men's Basketball Seasons are not acceptable at LSU.
(9) At this point, both LSU Basketball and Coach Matt McMahon would be better off going separate ways, as this is just not working and is trending badly.
(10) A change now also allows interim/new staff to establish fresh connections to potential future players.
All these rationales point to this being the best decision.
Plus, can anyone point to any reason against taking this step now?

I wonder, does anyone have an opinion of the following question:
if the rev share contract is as one-sided as some have said, and the same Agent represented the Coach while negotiating the terms of the legal document, could the Professional "Agent" for the Player have their OWN professional liability exposure to consider?

Also, starting to wonder if the injury is more severe (after in-person assessment) than some might have believed?
Just an opinion, but kind of has the feel of maybe a draft slide?

Just curious (if you know): If it is true as reported that Chambliss has signed a binding deal for 2026 with Ole Miss, how much is he going to be paid for comparison's sake?

re: Blaine Bradfords recruitment is “shutdown”

Football is a team sport. Any one single recruit "shutting it down" before his previous own time table, and before taking his prescheduled official visits, especially this early, is odd, but is his personal decision.
Nobody ever comes that we fans beg for. And it is so odd, that this may well not be on anything the coaches, but could simply be a high school player's desire and decision to get away from home, away from a girl friend, away from his current surroundings.
For now, better for us to go get the next best available player that actually WANTS to play for LSU.
Not time to give up, but for now its Next up! Keep moving forward, :geauxtigers:

So, apparently Fong says your sources are wrong about A&M?
Seems to have all the "Right Moves" though
Not even close, biggest need, Number 1 in Texas, and Number 1 LB in the country. Everything else today is lagniappe

Of all the HS Recruits, PERKINS was always the most prized Recruit coming into today...
Posted by brtiger09 on 2/2/22 at 1:41 pm
Top rated recruit in Texas, High Five Star, HUGE position of need, connection to NOLA. Jacoby M. would be great, but Perkins would make today a winner all by himself!
NOW just have to wait to see if we win his signature...

BUT .... This is indeed a unique year, not just because of the LSU Coaching change, but also because of the transfer portal and the additional 7 counters available. If we end with signing 2 to three today from HS, that would leave us ideally situated with 4 to 5 we can take from the transfer portal. While it is not ideal to lose any recruit to Bama, it also means that Bama just used a counter for a three star HS player. It will be one of their lowest star takes in this cycle.
Looking back on this all from the Fall, this may be a glass more than half full for the Tigers in the end.
