I read that as:

"Don't forget to call your Mom today if you can't go and see her in prison" at first glance..

I was like damn, some hard a$$ moms up in here.
14 straight division titles is incredible. Only to be matched by his unlikely to ever be broken "most times to be thrown out of game" record. I remember multiple times where he was thrown out of the game without him ever leaving the dugout... Those were the good times!

Florida and Tennessee will be very good next year.

Arkansas appears to be no joke either. Landing (4) 5 Star freshman, and transfer portal additions of Cooper Bowser and Wilkinson.
quote:

A home and home vs UCLA would be cool because I could stay with my friend in LA. Kansas would be fun.

But if we’re playing in Vegas I’m probably going to that as my big road trip.

Why can't we go to Storrs and have them come here? He and Nate are buddies and I would love to have Hurley in Coleman.

Have seen a couple of mocks lately and one had Allen as high as 16th pick but most have him solidly in the first round … don’t know how much insight they have but TIFWIW

I'm pretty surprised. It does look like he is back to climbing up a lot of mocks. It's going to be hard to keep him here if he is all but guaranteed of 1st round.

Then maybe they should be sold on the importance of other sports

Pretty hard to sell if they are losing buckets of money with every passing hour.

Grant Nelson has a decent chance of making an nba roster after spending his last season here and first year in the developmental league(s) working on his shot form.

Seemed like most nba experts were surprised the nets didn't renew him after his 10 day contract
quote:

Watching some Fielder highlights, he is definitely a 4 and we are in trouble if hes having to play the 5. He doesn't really play above the rim, and is going to struggle with more athletic bigs. Several of his "highlights" from this past season were him having to take tough 2s in traffic where he couldnt create space, as well as dunks where he had to regather under the rim to get up after a pass or rebound. I still think hes a great get and perfect for the system, but hes definitely a 4 or maybe even a big 3 in certain situations. Certainly better than getting Freeman who loves shooting long contested 2s while shooting 33% and also seems like a headcase. edit: Just calling what I see. I have seen a lot of comments comparing him to Grant. But he's a completely different player. Less athletic, doesnt have that kind of handle, but has a significantly better shooting stroke imo. He can shoot it from several feet behind the 3 point line too. I do think he has potential as a defender, hes willing, and moves laterally fairly well. Question will be if his lack of ups hurts his rebounding.

You aren't wrong no matter how unpopular it is. We need Garrison or Fleming to step up big at the 5 and let Fielder hold down the 4. It's plausible. Grant was a lot more special player than I think a lot of people are willing to concede or possibly understand.
quote:

To go through draft process while maintaining eligibility? Seems that’s exactly what he should do, just like Philon.

Not sure it was reasonable to expect him to return without even going through the learning process of testing the draft. He needs the feedback

I tend to agree... but I am always a little nervous when a wing/forward get's evaluated from our system. Not concerned with our guards or centers, but im always sketchy that these NBA scouts will encourage the wing types to put more mid range on tape.
He's hard to figure out. He definitely has some firm believers in the scouting field that have him in the 1st round and then he has some that think he could be late 2nd round. I think he should stay around considering he can make a million or 2 just by sticking around and I assume Nate will give him a lot of point forward roles.

Personally, when I watch Allen I see a more physical, but less skilled Kennedy Winston... But athletically very similar.
quote:

He was working up boards midseason but he had the same problem as Philon in 24-25 where he hit the freshman wall and finished on a downward projection. I think he's going to hear what he needs to hear and come back for one more season where he's more of a primary ignitor of the offense in Tuscaloosa.

I love Allen.. I think he has a lot of dog and he has a nice offensive skill set for someone his size and scrappy as hell on the boards. But I saw a scouting report on him that seemed pretty accurate.

Paraphrasing here:

Positives:
Good enough size for an NBA 3 or hybrid point forward. Trustworthy handles, can get to the basket against players his size and reliable finisher. Positions himself well for rebounding and very good instincts and timing. Defends his position pretty well, not outstanding.

Biggest Negatives:
* From a measurables and stats line, he looks the part for being a 1st round pick from the freshman. Surprisingly not as good of an athlete as expected. More you watch him on tape, the more it stands out he is not really an above the rim player.

The insinuation was that a lot of scouts kind of fell in love with him a little bit early on and then cooled a good bit after they watched him more.. Not because he really did anything wrong, but because he fell into that niche category of being really strong at the college level, but that his athleticism might not translate well to the NBA.
quote:

Overrated prep prospects who matured physically before their peers, but have robotic/stiff athleticism which mostly leads to bully ball.

That's pretty spot on really. I think Reid will probably be a nice savvy vet in the college ranks if he sticks around. But he just isn't what I thought he was being sold to be.
quote:

Think you may be underselling him a bit, but of course he isn’t Gerald Wallace.

I don't think im underselling him at all. He is the 2nd highest commit Alabama has ever had in the "composite" index era and he is still a project. I was told this guy was a lottery pick super athlete and he's just not. The closest comp I can think for him is Gerald Wallace, but Gerald was just a lot better athlete and a more competent dribble drive guy. He doesn't really have a certain skill set that separates him from the crowd. Is he a serviceable player who can become an all conference guy, sure... Has his value kind of plummeted since high school, yes.
quote:

I’d say Derrion Reid was meant to be that and was a bit for about half a season. His dunk at the dunk contest was something to see.

Think he would have been really good for us if we could have kept him around and let him develop.

Still think Reid is a bit of a charlatan. He looks the part and against air he can be pretty impressive, but something is just missing with his game. In the middle of SEC play the year that Reid was here, I was trying to figure out what his game actually was. I said it then and I stick by it, he is a poor man's Gerald Wallace. There were countless times in Reid's freshman year where he would have a pretty clear alley to the basket and I was expecting fireworks and would end up seeing some weird contortionist act that just made no sense.

Athletically, Reid is probably a pretty good combine guy, but against competition he is underwhelming. He is 1/10 the athlete that Wallace was in live action. Wallace had big holes in his game offensively as a freshman and Reid did as well. But Wallace was ridiculously athletic and had above average handles for a guy who was probably always the best athlete in the gym since he was toddler. Reid on the other hand just never looked like a guy who was comfortable trying to blow by anyone. If he sticks around for 4 years of college he will probably be a really nice veteran piece somewhere, but he just isn't a dog.
I have reached that point where I saw Alabama make a final four and I think im good. I always wanted to see it just once and it was a pretty bad arse ride.. Im not yelling at the clouds now, but im probably close to the end of my fandom. With football it died a long time ago for me, for some reason basketball was always the sport I wanted to see take off if only for a little while. Im pretty content to be honest... Think these next few years will be pretty gross though.

Not really from a win loss perspective, just year in and year out losing respect for 2/3's of the team you root for because they are off to the highest bidder. I would do it to if I had the opportunity, so im not mad at them, just not really what I want to get to invested in anymore.

I think he'll be part of starting 5 this fall if he keep progressing.

Let's hope not... He has gone backwards each year since his freshman year and huge question marks about him staying dialed in and showing effort consistently.. Kentucky fans have been pissed that Mo hit the portal, they wanted to keep him and loved his effort... Garrison on the other hand they celebrated hitting the road.
quote:

So help me if we try to cheap out ima lose it. The money can go so much farther in basketball than football.

Im with you, it's going to suck... But I still go back to the fact that if these rosters are going to cost 12-15 mill, you have to have honest conversations with dead weight at the end of the year and tell them to move on. It's not popular to talk about, but you can't be in the business of developing projects anymore that come with a hefty price tag. Im all for buying a developed project, but paying for the development of a project player over the course of a few years and then to have them turn around and sell themselves to the highest bidder... no way.
quote:

I'd pass. He was already pretty inefficient at Pitt and the increased pace of play at Kentucky just made it worse.

Fair point... Im curious as to our move at that position (contingent on Holloway).
Any possibility we make a move on Jaland Lowe who just entered the portal? We need a pg and he looked great against us in one of the few games he played in for UK
You said this is the perfect system for his skill set and I'm just wondering what his skill set is. He can't take anyone off the dribble, he can't create his own shot, he gets pushed out of the lane with ease by guys half his size, he shoots his 3 point shot from the waist so he needs to be wide open. He can't defend his position or the 3. TBB is 6'10 and I can count on 0 fingers how many put back dunks he had this year coming off missed shots, that's troubling. At best he is a guy that could be a nice piece at a mid major where he can find his way. If we are serious about winning a national title, we don't need to be paying projects
