re: Premier League game in London
Posted by bigeasy225 on 3/7/25 at 9:14 am to 225rumpshaker
This is the feedback i was looking for. I have no team allegiances, just looking for a good gameday and stadium experience. I'm staying closer to Stamford Bridge where the Man U game is but if Arsenal Newcastle will be a better matchup, I can make the hike to that one.
Premier League game in London
Posted by bigeasy225 on 3/7/25 at 8:32 am
Taking a trip across the pond this spring and would like to check out a soccer game while I'm there. I don't really follow the premier league or soccer in general, but something like this has always been a bucket list event for me, especially if it coincides with a trip I was planning on taking anyway. Currently eyeing the Man U vs Chelsea game on May 18th.
Anyone done this recently and have any advice on making this a memorable experience? Is there a specific ticketing website or group i should go through for tickets? Or are stubhub/most of the American ticket vendors the way to go? Wasn't sure if there was a different system in Europe.
TIA

Moisture Barrier for House Crawl Space
Posted by bigeasy225 on 2/4/25 at 8:46 am
Just bought a house in New Orleans Metro area with a conventional pier and beam foundation. House was built around 2010 so relatively new bones, but am considering adding a moisture barrier in the crawl space which currently just has a dirt floor, like i imagine most do. It was something my inspector pointed out during the buying process, saying it might preserve the beams in the long term, and my previous house also had a Visqueen type barrier underneath.
Is this something worth looking into, and can i do it myself? Are there companies that do this stuff on the daily and quick? Are there different degrees you can take this to, or should i just let it be the next guy's problem?
Any insight is appreciated!!!

Shouldn’t my accountant tell me what that estimated number is though?
Tax Filing Extension
Posted by bigeasy225 on 4/10/24 at 9:32 am
My CPA informed me earlier this week that they would be filing for an extension to submit my tax return, but that I would still need to pay any money I may owe by the 15th. My response was “wouldn’t you need to finish my return first to figure what that number is?” I haven’t gotten a response yet.
Is this correct? If you file for an extension, would any money owed not be due until the new extension deadline? Do I need a new CPA?
I am in sales and my income comes in random spurts throughout the year in the form of commission checks, so I usually pay quarterly estimates. I think I withheld the proper amounts this past year but have owed come tax season in previous years.
Anyone have an opinion they could share on this?

All great information, thanks everyone. Hope to bump one day with a good story to tell
Big game hunting out West
Posted by bigeasy225 on 8/10/22 at 10:55 am
Anyone here ever rifle hunted out West for deer, elk, sheep? I've never traveled beyond the deer stand in Louisiana and want to someday make the trek out to Colorado, Wyoming or Montana and do the full experience - hiking, camping, hunting, whole nine yards but have no idea where to start.
I would be prepared to take a week off work and commit to it, but when planning something like this, what do i need to think about? Are there certain agencies that would be more helpful than others I could contact? Certain tags i should apply for/have a better chance of getting as an out of towner? Any outfitters people know of that don't cost a fortune?
I'll figure out the specifics later for what the trip and actual hunt will look like but for now, am trying to narrow down a location (general areas, not looking for anyone's honeyhole) and how to get more info on the rules and regulations of that area.
Thanks in advance

That makes sense, but the same questions apply - where do i start?
Purchasing Gold
Posted by bigeasy225 on 9/26/21 at 2:10 pm
Recent negative returns aside, looking to put 5-10% of my taxable investment portfolio into precious metals (and crypto, set myself up in the Voyager app last week). Regarding metals, what are the different ways to purchase forms of gold, etc?
Do you have to find a local broker to buy physically buy it? Does Vanguard or other online brokerages offer ETF’s?
Does owning shares of an ETF defeat the purpose of owning metals as an asset if you aren’t physically holding them? At first I would think so, but if the alternative is calling up one of the guys that advertise on the Fox Business commercials, I’d rather do the former. Seems like snake oil.
May end up just pushing the rest of potential gold allocation into Bitcoin, but still curious what options are.
Any insight appreciated. TIA

Had this trip planned before it occurred to me that we would be playing in the Rose bowl nearby.
Also I've been to LA a number of times and think it's a great place, but it's so big that it warrants its own trip separate from the football game. I think all going will have a great time but being in Vegas for opening CFB weekend is not a bad consolation

Heading straight to the airport after lunch today.
Skimmed through the planning thread but didn't see a lot of Vegas talk. I know a lot of people have said they will either be in Las Vegas for the long weekend or traveling through there on their way to Pasadena.
What are your plans while there? Where will you watch the game? I will taking out a second mortgage on my house at the Circa sportsbook to start the day but want to find somewhere unique for Kickoff, almost too many places to choose from
Also anyone that's already down there, what are the covid restrictions like? Wide open? masks/negative test requirements, etc?

re: Chronic Wrist pain from weightlifting

If anyone was curious, after a solid 18 months of going through life with sore hands and wrists all the time, I’ve traced this back to nerve issues in my neck. Thought y’all were crazy but here we are. Been doing physical therapy and it’s not back to 100% yet, but just pinpointing the problem is a mental relief in itself.
Been lifting light weights to re-introduce the motions to my body and muscles with correct form this time, and hope to come back stronger than before!

REIT investing today
Posted by bigeasy225 on 5/2/20 at 1:35 pm
Looked through the stickied and also searched for recent threads on this but couldn't find anything comprehensive. What does everyone think about REIT's at this moment in today's environment? Vanguard's VGSIX is down about 25% off it's high earlier this year, but I imagine one of the worst case market scenarios in the coming months would be potential residential and commercial mortgage defaults. Obviously there are a lot of unknowns in the market right now as a whole, but real estate seems particularly vulnerable.
I've picked up a decent amount of a total stock market fund and some other blue chips like Coke, JPM the last month or so but have never invested in REITs and am not sure if this is a good time to start.
What have others been doing? Steer clear until things stabilize or start dollar averaging into one over the rest of the year?
How do you begin researching them in general, and anything else I should be looking at besides a vanguard ETF?
Thanks in advance.

I had an EMG test done a while ago and they ruled out carpel tunnel. Would this also rule out any neck problems or does separate testing have to be done?

Ah, wow. There’s probably a lot of things I need to do to my form before getting active again. Thanks for the video and all the other replies.
I’m sure there’s some other threads in here that have links or go over proper form for other lifts?

i put the tips of thumbs on the edge of the rough part of the center then extend and position my hands from there.
I could very well have form problems but I’ll address that later and just want to remedy the pain because time and rest by itself aren’t doing it

Chronic Wrist pain from weightlifting
Posted by bigeasy225 on 1/5/20 at 12:43 pm
About 9 months ago I started doing some basic progression weightlifting to put on some weight, and about 2 months in I started having wrist pain which progressively got worse until I stopped the workout routine. Even after stopping, everyday activities such as washing dishes and carrying things like groceries became burdensome. Went to the doctor, x-rays and mri were negative for any structural damage, was told to give it some rest adjust my lifestyle for a little while.
Fast forward several months to now, I’m still having problems, went back to the doctor and their proposed next step is a wrist scope (didn’t know this was a thing).
Has anyone ever had similar problems to this? The problem definitely stemmed from the weightlifting a while ago. I was mixing in a lot of pushups, and there was never an incident or moment of injury but seems like just from repeated use. Im in my 20s and sort of lanky so I’m not really built for weightlifting, but no way this is normal.
Any guesses on what’s goin on here? I’d like to get back to weightlifting but at this time it’s really affecting my day to day life.

Thanks for the insight. Like someone else said, I’ve seen from others around me how the sky can be the limit in sales.
But this is not necessarily about an income ceiling. I feel like i’d regret not exploring other opportunities when I have the freedom to do so now (no family). I’d like to see what other parts of the country are like. I currently travel through rural LA/MS/AL and spend the night at a holiday inn 10-15 nights a month. Work is good, but can’t say that’s what I dreamed about growing up.
Trying to not just see the grass as being greener on the other side. Seems to be a fine line between wanting to pursue other opportunities and taking your current one for granted.
