I guess you haven’t paid attention to all the wealthy people’s children that are around yours. The few who don’t score high on the test are sent to private schools. What did they do with the kids that don’t score high? Give them a shitty education? (Which is what they do) Are they not entitled to a better education? That’s what I mean by cabal. And yes, SH is a very good school.

I appreciate everyone’s opinions. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not an idiot. This is a rhetorical question and I am aware and agree with the majority of the comments. Maybe I should rephrase my question is why is there a disparity between very wealthy (upper middle class) and lower middle. I am racked my brain and tried to understand that. The only thing I can think of is the vast quantities of oil money that have stayed in the area. The east part of town is an incredibly wealthy area. I just wanted peoples opinions if they knew where I am going with this.

Oh I absolutely agree with you. Maybe I am preaching to the choir. But I thought it would be fun just to see what peoples opinions were. As you’ll see in my post above, there is a disparity in the progression of Shreveport versus Bossier city; not only in education but several other issues.

It’s very depressing. It’s a very different town then the place I grew up in. The thing is, it never should have become this.

I don’t know maybe I see the magnet programs is not providing an equal education to everyone. Sorry. It always looked very fishy to me that it was some sort of back door or compromise for wealthy people to send their children to public school. Must be for the education in the magnet schools and leave everybody else out to dry. Where is Bossier, on the other hand, has stellar school performance in all school programs. Why is Bossier different??

Why is Shreveport dying?

Yes, it is a rhetorical question. I have grown up in this city and I have lived here for most of my life. It seems as though this town had always been on the cusp of growth and innovation but never quite made it. It began to die in the early 90’s ( or perhaps earlier) now it seems as though it is a mixture of old money and ghetto with nothing in between. How did that happen? I think in the past, politicians may have made some very poor decisions and Shreveport bore the consequences. Our education system also seems to be at the forefront (“The Magnet Cabal” is another topic for a later discussion). Does anyone have some insight as to how this happened?
