re: Best Cracklins from Baton Rouge to Houston

Hard to beat Billy's, but Charlie T's in Breaux Bridge has great cracklins and boudin. Babineaux's Slaughterhouse in Breaux Bridge is also worth trying.
re: Goig to Lockhart for first time this weekend. Where to go?

Follow tejashorn's advice. City Market in Luling down the road from Lockhart is better than anything in Lockhart. That said, Smitty's is really good. I've never been a fan of Kreuz's. I've never been to Black's but I think they offer sauce unlike Smitty's and Kreuz's.
re: Restaurants in Bossier City...

The other posters are right that the choices in Bossier are slim, but there is actually a really good Chinese restaurant a block from Diamond Jack's. It is called Lucky Palace. Check out the link.
It has a strong local following, but it is located in a shady motel so you will kind of have to take a leap of faith. The house specialty appetizers are great and there are are some really good authentic items on the house specialty menu. Our favorites things to get are the duck on scallion pancakes (the best thing on the menu), pirate boats, the salt and pepper trio, home style duck and the imperial steak. Lucky Palace also has a shockingly good, and reasonably priced, wine selection, which is not something you would expect at a Chinese restaurant. It gets the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence pretty much every year.

re: Shreveport Area Boiled Crawfish

I second Crawdaddy's Kitchen on Mansfield Road. It is probably the best dine-in option in the city limits. I like Crawfish Tyme a little more, but it is pick-up only. Shaver's isn't bad, but I like the other two more.
If you don't mind driving a little, Crawfish Hole #2 in Dixie Inn is head and shoulders better than anything in Shreveport-Bossier. It's about a 30 minute drive down I-20.

I love the pizza. Try the fried kale as a side.

That amount also covers the membership fee into the local chapter and admission to our Kickoff to Tiger Football party in August. We serve all you can eat jambalaya and all you can drink beer at that event. More importantly, the money goes directly toward funding LSU Alumni scholarships.
Admins, is there any way I can get a sticky for this thread?

Coach Miles will be coming up to Shreveport to speak to the Caddo-Bossier Alumni group at East Ridge Country Club on Tuesday, June 14 at Noon. We just found out so I am posting on the rant to get the word out. Here is the announcement:
Ther Caddo-Bossier LSU Alumni and Fans will host its annual catfish dinner at noon on Tuesday, June 14, at East Ridge Country Club featuring Coach Les Miles.
The cost is $35 per person if paid beforehand and $45 at the door. Send payment to 7600 Fern Ave., Bldg 1300, Shreveport 71105.
The event is open to everyone. Included in the price is all you can eat fried catfish and chicken with all of the trimmings and all you can drink beer.
We will be raffling off two tickets to the LSU-Florida and LSU-Auburn games.
For information contact Larry Higdon at 869-1061.

Second Katz's, Grimaldi's, Joe's and Peter Luger. I've been to most of the famous deli's (2nd Avenue, Carnegie, etc.), but Katz's is easily my favorite.
Grimaldi's is my favorite sit down pizza place. Joe's has great pizza by the slice. Peter Luger is one of the best steak places anywhere.
I'd also suggest Balthazar, if you want to go to a French bistro.

Dahn's is really the only place to go in the area for Vietnamese food. I think it is pretty decent.
For Chinese food, Lucky Palace in Bossier is my favorite by some margin. The owner, Lim, also has really good taste in wine. He has put together a great list of good, reasonably priced wines.

Second Crawfish Hole #2. Best crawfish by far in the area. For takeout crawfish, Shaver's is ok, but Crawfish Tyme is better. Kim's in Bossier also has very good crawfish. I think Kim's only sells "selects."
