the single dumbest playcall thus far in the post season

I fail to see how a playcall that resulted in a Wisconsin player being wide arse open in the endzone a dumb playcall. It's up to the players to execute, and TCU's all-american was up to the challenge to stop it. While TCU was being gashed a bit by the run on that drive, a run play is not an absolute guarantee to score.

a sub-par Big 10 "Champion"

What gives you the right to call Wisconsin sub-par? They were considered one of the hottest teams in the country at the season's end. Is every team not labelled SEC sub-par?

To my knowledge the old stadium was condemned the same time the Superdome was opened.

I don't think it was demanded that the building be demolished...in fact I think it stood in place for a good 5 years before it finally came down for good.
Dickson claims nearly half the money for it is raised already if you go up and ask him about it. Just a matter of time.

Put a winning product on the field and people will show up. The school as a whole has maybe close to 100k living alumni, and I'd venture to guess only about 25k that actually still live in the area. Winning is the only thing that will win new people over.

This, in comparison to football...which takes over 3 hours to play and contains about 10 minutes of actual action.

I like both sports, but to say there's no "action" is bogus.
Let's see:

Tim Couch (21 mil):
1,025-1,714 59.8%
TD-INT 64-67
11,131 yds
QB Rating 75.1
*Owns several season records for the Browns

Ryan Leaf (31 mil, 11 guaranteed):
317-655 48.4%
TD-INT 14-36
3,666 yds
QB Rating 50.0

JR (68 mil, 31 guaranteed):
330-639 51.6%
TD-INT 17-21
3,860
QB Rating 65.5

While his numbers are slightly better than Leaf, you can easily make the argument that getting paid twice as much as Leaf results in a bigger bust here. While Tim Couch may not have lived up to his full hype, he did at least have a decent NFL career.
Auburn's problem is that their offense spends the majority of the game lined up looking to the sideline for new plays to be called. In a two minute drill, you don't have time for that crap. Let the quarterback snap it quickly and just run playground football. It would have been more effective for Auburn.
With 2:00 left and the Colts with only one timeout, a successful conversion wins the game for all practical purposes. A 4th and 2 conversion would be successful 60% of the time. Historically, in a situation with 2:00 left and needing a TD to either win or tie, teams get the TD 53% of the time from that field position. The total WP for the 4th down conversion attempt would therefore be:

(0.60 * 1) + (0.40 * (1-0.53)) = 0.79 WP

A punt from the 28 typically nets 38 yards, starting the Colts at their own 34. Teams historically get the TD 30% of the time in that situation. So the punt gives the Pats about a 0.70 WP.

Statistically, the better decision would be to go for it, and by a good amount.

This does take into account the situation of not making the conversion.

Tulane does not need LSU to meet attendance requirements nor does it need LSU to fully sustain the athletic department. ThreePutt seems to be the only one that understands this.

I am a Tulane fan/alum and have never heard any other fans state anything regarding attendance as a justification of anger/resentment over the cancellation of the series. In fact, many Tulane fans are happy that the series is ending. Count me in the group that wants to see it continue, but only if a home and home or at worst 2 for 1 deal would be reached. If that type of agreement does not satisfy LSU's financial concerns...so be it. Ole Miss will fill in just fine.

re: CSS Sports Network on COX Cable

Comcast does in fact have CSS and CST.
None of our home games are ever on CST -- I believe this is due to CUSA's deal with CBS College Sports.

As for the time of game, all weekday games this year start at 6 PM, regardless of opponent.
The argument that this game somehow makes or breaks the Tulane athletic department or football team is laughable.

600k is probably on the high end of a rent-a-win status team, but I'm sure Tulane could get that from others if they desired. That figure is likely 3% or less the athletic budget for Tulane.

LSU has almost no leverage in attempting to dictate who comes to play Tulane in New Orleans. If LSU doesn't like the fact that other SEC schools are coming to New Orleans, too bad.

The issue here is that financially this game has more impact for LSU -- LSU has an athletics budget that must be fed by a minimum of 7 home games. Without that monetary limitation, LSU would be free to do more than 1 home/home series with other opponents. Or even better, schedule a home and home with an opponent opposite the Tulane game.

I think this deal should continue. I think its a positive for both schools and happy to see at least some LSU fans feel the same way. With that said, if LSU were to demand moving all the games to BR or offer a 2 for 1...I would advise Tulane to not only turn it down, but demand LSU to buyout the remainder of the 10 year deal.

Here's a quote from the TP in November of 2008:

"The deal gives Tulane a $600,000 guarantee for games at Tiger Stadium, including its 7,000-seat allotment. For games at the Superdome, LSU gets 40,000 tickets to sell at $40 apiece, a potential $1.6 million payday.

Dickson now says, "this is not a make-or-break deal for us financially," adding that he has received offers from other BCS conference schools for home-and-home series but does not want to overload future schedules with such games."
