Two great looking, thin, successful parents with 2-4 kids, living in a $450k+ home, and a daughter getting a new car... isn't indicative of the typical American family either -- since the typical American couple is a fat female and an average or below average-looking male, at best. Commercials aren't stewards of reality.
But such couples and families do exist no matter how rare; likewise the interracial couples depicted in commercials. The couples (interracial and thin couples) depicted in commercials are often far more represented in higher income areas; which is why the average American rarely sees such.

re: Why is absolutely every couple in today’s commercials an interracial couple?

Exactly. I don't live near any fat people, even the waitresses and baristas nearby are thin. I do live near mixed couples. You don't have to be a member of Mensa to realize that the lower your own socioeconomic existence, the more poor and unhealthy couples you'll see.
