At Bama it just means less…

When you have won national championships on average one every six years since the beginning of the SEC, not to mention conference championships by the score, it alters your perspective. For some, maybe many, it makes you less appreciative, and dismissive of those who have not been as successful. Bama sees herself as the bride with the eleven other schools as her escorts. This is true even when she is not winning.
At the other schools in the SEC it just means more, not so with Bama. Bama fans (as I read in their online comments) are not finding winning hard to swallow. I find the same mocking dismissive arrogance I have been hearing for years. Winning is just so much harder to deal with and not become an a-hole.
I have wondered if this lofty dismissive attitude is not an attempt to compensate for some identity crisis. Losing the civil war, poverty, shame, inadequacy, irrelevance, or is it a native character trait? One might begin to think that all they had to be proud of in the state, is the Alabama football team. Please say it ain’t so.
It is inevitable that they must become complacent, not as hungry, and meanwhile the games are boring. When you win by an average of 30 points, how can they not be boring? In the end it is not good for the league or Alabama.
We can hope that this streak of dominance may be coming to an end. If Nicky boy wins another natty this year he may decide to hang it up. If not, he may not be as sharp and capable going forward. Even he is not immune to time. There is always hope.
Ahem, I salute both teams and coaching staffs. I anticipate another, exciting close game and I believe we will score some points!
Disclaimer: If I hurt anyone’s feelings I sincerely apologize. (Actually I don’t give a damn.)
