My father in law and I are coming in from AZ for our Rivalry Tour. 1st SEC game for us! Cannot wait!

Much like the visitors from AZ, we are heading in for a rivalry trip as well. One from Ohio and I'm flying from Iowa. Looking forward to the game, and probably equally important...to see what the famous LSU tailgate scene is all about! Can't wait!

Funny thing is he probably hears that everywhere, but just wait until he reports back! :-)

We do, but quite honestly, this already has a different feel to it. Especially with how well LSU has played lately and the Alabama coming in with a win streak that will be fun to watch get broken! We will report back for sure!

Pretty cool tradition. What others have you been to? Ive done Army/Navy, Bama/AU, OSU/Mich, Red Sox Yankees. Would love to make it an annual thing one day like you are doing.

You list is more impressive than ours! We have been to a World Series game, then switched to college football...Miami/FSU, Auburn/Georgia, and last year we went to Arkansas/Alabama....that was a last minute deal, and not a rivalry, but it was the best game that fit in our schedule.

Alabama at LSU has been the one we circled since we started this trip. I was just talking yesterday about the number of responses we have received to our post. I never thought I'd see that many! Seems to be a pretty good indication that this will be the best trip we have made yet!

Make sure you arrive SUPER early though, most of us get there around 7AM (even on an 8PM kickoff).

This seems to be a theme. We plan to be there early morning. After the Ole Miss win, it seems that this game and atmosphere is going to be incredible. We are really looking forward to the tailgate scene. LSU has a reputation for tailgating even where we live. We can't thank you all enough for the continued replies.
Thanks to everyone that has responded. In the last five years of posting nearly the same message to other boards, this has been the most expansive and helpful collection of responses I've seen. We are in for a great time! If you see us in our Illinois and Michigan shirts, give us a shout!

Wear whatever school you root for shirt on Game Day. That is a sure fire way to get invited into tail gates.

We have never thought of doing this before. Is this a real thing? People will be friendly if we are wearing Illinois and Michigan gear to an LSU game? It sounds like a fun idea, but I guess I'm hesitant.

Not necessary. Aliens are welcome to just about any tailgate.

Our plan is to fill our backpack coolers full of beer and some food and make friends as we stroll through the tailgate scene. Looks like our plan will be well received. Thanks!

We're coming to this game for the first time also. Check out my post. Got some great advice on here. LINK

That is awesome. Thanks for the link! We started the rivalry game thing 5 years ago and it has been something that we look forward to and talk about all year. You will have a great time!
Looking forward to it! Do most people hang out on Friday night downtown or near campus? We are in our mid thirties, so we are looking for more alumni type places than college age crowds.
Yes, we have tickets. This was the game that we both have wanted to see. We waited it out to see it in Death Valley too. I'm guessing we will be happy with that choice!
My friend and I attend a (somewhat randomly selected) college football rivalry game each year, and this year we picked the LSU - Alabama game in Baton Rouge. This has been the rivalry we have circled for a few years, but and this is the first time it has worked in our schedules. Needless to say, we are pretty excited!

We are from the Midwest and want to get the full Tiger, home game weekend experience while we are in town. Neither of us has been to Baton Rouge, so we are looking for advice on the following:

What to do on Friday?: Good food spots, cool bars to go to, must-see's on campus?

Gameday: It was recommended we check out the tailgate scene (an most likely become engulfed in it). Are there any "common area" tailgates that are open for anyone to join? Also, are there any traditions that we should be sure to see?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.
