re: Offense ?

I said the same thing in a previous post. Spread the defense out and make them cover the entire field. Its going to be man coverage, we have elite receivers. Give them a chance to be elite and take more shots down the field. Run some wheel routes and drag routes into spaces left open by defenders chasing receivers in man. Throw more bubble screens and middle screens. Hit the TE in the space the LB's leave open trying to stuff the run. Run more zone read qb keepers to force the DE to read and react instead of attack. Run play action off that. So many things to force a defense out of stacking the box. We just refuse to do them until the defense knows we have to do them.
Agree on Auburn... Clemson's offense is light years ahead of ours right now, and Auburn kept them bottled up for 3.5 quarters. While Auburn did eventually give up 100+ yards to Wayne Gallman, Auburn held them to half of their normal points scored. I was pretty impressed with their D, mostly because I fully expected the orange tigers to score at least 6 or 7 touchdowns on the blue tigers.
I think blame has to be shared. Most blame lies on coaching and play calling. Les and Cam are not calling plays that take advantage of the defenses presented to them, nor are they calling plays that puts ALL of our talented skill players in positions to contribute. Harris owns not taking matters into his own hands to make smart plays, like checking into passing plays when the defense puts 9 in the box, identifying weak links in the secondary and taking advantage of them, putting his tall receivers in position to take advantage of smaller DBs or scrambling more to make the defense have to account for him. And I'll just go ahead and say it... Perhaps the complexities of Cam's NFL passing game gives him way too much to think about back there. Perhaps things need to be simplified- which goes back to coaching to take advantage of the skills of your talent, and not your personal philosophy.
I'd like to see the qb audible into a passing play when there are 8-9 defenders in the box; We have tall enough/ fast enough WRs to gamble on some shots downfield against man coverage.

Spread the defense out with 4 wr sets (or 2 wr and 2 te) and run zone reads; I bet qb could get big yardage considering everyone will key #7. use the same formation to develop the short passing game through play action. Same formation can be used to call other running plays as well, it loosens up the box and gives #7 some space to work.

Use motion to help identify pass coverage pre-snap. We are going to get man coverage nearly 99% of the time until the qb proves he can beat it with his arms and legs, but the qb cant afford to be tricked into throwing blindly into zone.

Exploit poor DBs and force them to back up and/ or force the D to provide help over the top (see FSU v Miss). The moment that happens it becomes harder to put 8-9 in the box. and when they do start doubling, run another receiver into the space the defenders previously occupied. Swing passes and wheel routes would be deadly.

Step up in the pocket and deliver the ball instead of instantly scrambling outside into the path of defenders. if no one is open, RUN North and South. even a two yard gain on a scramble is better than an incomplete and WAY better than a sack or an interception.

Do some designed roll outs with a run/pass option, put the qb on the edge of the defense and make those DB's who are probably in man coverage, make a decision to cover or play run support. This also changes the DE focus to contain which opens up some off tackle shovel passes or sprint draws.

put #7 on wheel routes out of the backfield against a slower LB.

Put #7 in the slot or at WR and run screens and quick passes against smaller DBs.

Use More perimeter plays (bubble screens, quick passes) to force the D expend more energy by running laterally and defend the whole field instead of camping out in the box and defending a smaller area.

More middle screens and draws to offset the pass rush.

And when defenses are finally forced to loosen up and play balanced, run wildcat with #7 and #5. Let #7 throw it a few times to keep them honest. throw some jet sweeps in there.

Win time of Possession. Not even the greatest defense can remain effective if they are on the field for most of the game. Keep our D fresh, wear the opponents D out by making them cover the whole field and play as many snaps as possible.

Lol, I'm guess I'm asking them to do what any other offense would do to keep a defense guessing. #wishfulthinking :geauxtigers:
