I got no problem whatsoever with anyone protecting their lives, kids lives, property or pets from any threat. If I find a hot snake in my neighborhood, deer stand or duck blind it's toast just to be safe. I'm just saying it's a learned fear. It's not a fear that we are taught. And yeah, they do eat bird eggs. So do coons, skunks, squirrels, other birds and especially hogs. Whether you believe it or not snakes do eat a helluva lot of mice and rats. And if they could control the hog population, we'd have a helluva lot more to worry about than a bunch of damn pigs.

Signed up in 06. Haven't visited this site much since and I have no idea where the 7 posts come from. Yeah Mom was a country girl from northwest La. but didn't hunt or fish. I'm not a bunny hugger or a snake hugger, but I do know a little about animals. I'm just not afraid of them.

I'm no bunny hugger, but I just don't understand the fear so many have of snakes or any other animal. My folks weren't outdoor folks. My Dad was from north Indiana and Mom was a country girl from north Louisiana. As a kid when I started roaming and playing in the woods, hunting, fishing, dip netting, trapping or just catching and bringing home whatever I could, they taught me for safety's sake to learn about whatever it was be it birds, tadpoles, squirrels crawfish, snakes, frogs, you name it. Yeah they put up with a lot from me, but they never taught me to fear anything. I've been surprised by a few snakes that scared the crap out of me and I don't blame anybody for dispatching a hot/venomous snake in their yard. I've done it myself. There are some places they just don't belong. But if you're in their yard, just leave em the hell alone. They do serve a purpose. It's the only animal I've ever seen that can make a grown man turn into a pants pissin little girl. Sorry for the rant, but I just don't get it.
