Groomed for what? Headset wearing and clipboard holding?

He's a spineless chameleon. He'd say anything to anyone if he thought it'd get him elected.

Basically lampooning Jindal's upcoming prayer rally, calling it another stunt in his presidential campaign blah blah blah...

Played ball with the badger in the rec before. He is, to put it mildly, full of shite. I doubt he's the best on his own team.

Contrary to what most ranters think, Miles and Cam are not idiots. They know football and are playing the best players that help the team win.
Kendell Beckwith disagrees with this.

Do people really think this is the offense we want to run?
Last year was the offense we want to run, and our QBs aren't capable of running it.
No, obviously it isn't. Which is precisely why you adapt the offense to match the skills/strengths of the personnel you have. Is this not what coaches are paid to do?

I've lurked on this board for a while now. That, my friend, was unquestionably one of the dumbest and least thought through posts I've seen. Kudos.

This is a revealing comparison, and one that really needs no additional commentary. Speaks for itself.

Ooops....obviously I meant there's no reason to pick LSU to beat Ole Miss. But yeah, I'm picking LSU. Because I always pick LSU.

There's absolutely no objective or rational reason to pick Ole Miss to beat LSU. They basically do everything better than we do. Having said that, LSU wins 27-24.

re: Shouldn't Salary Scale with Results?
Posted by Cleetus_VanDamme on 10/21/14 at 9:58 am to Cleetus_VanDamme
Could we not pay a less high profile offensive coordinator to do the job that's currently being done? I'm not saying fire Cameron or cut his salary - that's not happening and that's not how it works. But it's a serious question to ask if we're going to win the philosophy of Miles, which is defensible, then why spend so much on an OC when it's not necessary and it doesn't change the results on the field much?

I never mentioned Miles. I simply asked why our offensive coordinator gets paid an inordinately high salary to coordinate an offense as complex as my high school's. And I don't think Mullen or Freeze are necessarily better coaches than Miles, but they undoubtedly are better OFFENSIVE coaches. Is that even controversial to claim?

Alrighty then. No one disputes that guys are getting overpaid to do a remarkably banal job. Thanks for playing.

70% running is a manifestation of the results, which is a shitty, unbalanced, uncreative, non-adaptive offense.
Shouldn't Salary Scale with Results?
Posted by Cleetus_VanDamme on 10/21/14 at 8:58 am
So, we have one of the highest paid offensive coordinators in college football and we run the ball 70% of the time, despite having elite athletes all over the field. And when we do run the football, we do so less imaginatively and with less misdirection than virtually any other team in D1. Only the service academies have less balance on the offense than LSU.
How's this possible?

Yeah yeah, I get that we run the same plays over and over and over again, and they usually don't work. My point is that we haven't committed to an offensive identity and thus don't excel at anything in particular.

I remember DeSean Smith dropping one ball this year. Am I missing something? A guy drops one ball and that's it? No more passes? He's phased out of the offense altogether? The tight ends have no rhythm or chemistry with the QB's, and they haven't for years. Maybe if they were thrown more than a pass or two all year, they'd improve. What the hell are they doing in practice? I can't imagine what Miles has to tell the mother of tight end prospect in order to get him to sign.

Fair enough. Whatever it is, at least everyone agrees that it's not working. Except, of course, for the coaching staff, who, I'm told on here, know more than everyone else.

Exactly. The decision calculus for Auburn's QB is simple, really simple, as is their entire offense. They just run it extremely well, extremely efficiently, and extremely fast. And it works. We may run the freakin' toss dive a hundred times a night, but we're obviously wasting a ton of time each week practicing plays and formations we rarely run. If we just spread it out and asked the QB to make a quick read we'd probably, you know, convert a 3rd down.
