Just wondering what y'all mean by phony or what y'all thought was weird. I've only seen him on tv and thought he was weird and creepy.

When I say phony I mean he was overly cheerful and happy in a way that seemed fake, akin to a televangelist trying to sell you something. That was my feeling - obviously some others really liked him.

What was weird to me was them all living in the same house and wondering if they had any independence from him. I thought maybe the living together was because they were from England and couldn't afford another place. I wasn't aware of how long they had been in the U.S. and never asked what brought them here (who *wouldn't* want to live in America?!?) and they never offered details either.
Thanks for your insight. As I have stated before I knew the 1stCo crew on a professional basis and chalked up their weird dynamic to them being foreign? It was easy to overlook for the most part. I thought Scott was rather phony and controlling of his employees but never expected this, and how it would relate to those who were in his life. I am pulling for the caller to be able to move on with his life and am glad for him that he escaped. I wish Mathew had been able to do the same - I too completely believe that Scott wanted him to shoot him. They were very kind and talented individuals. Can't believe what they had to endure.

Yes it's real. I think it was for some charity event called "Walk a mile in her shoes" or some shite. Not sure what organization/cause it was to benefit

Ironically it was for an event related to BR STAR - Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response.

At the beginning, Jim says the guy who shot Scott is 32,

Every news story I've read says 36.

Not to mention, the guy in the interview says he's known Scott for 23 years, met him when he was 12 at the dance studio and came to the US in 1995/1996 to be with Scott...
I listened to it and he said he traveled around to different countries with Scott performing, I guess dance, and then moved here 96/97. Don't know what constitutes an adult in England... If he turned 35 this year that would make him 18 in 1997, 17 in 1996.
If anyone wants the Cliff's Notes version of the Jim Engster show, Wafb has a rundown;

It is not so simple as he was "exonerated." The jury was hung on several counts from what I've since read. More allegations followed. The story of the kid being on drugs and admitting he made up his allegations was the version of the story that Scott told his own lawyer. Doesn't mean it was exactly accurate.

From the times I met Scott, yes he was very friendly and seemingly happy, but there was also something very fake and somewhat creepy about him.

Listen to the whole Jim Engster segment. I really don't know what these men have to gain from making any of this up and I believe at the very least, the first account is quite credible.

What if this was nothing more than a gay man who killed himself because his kids were going to be taken from him because of a paperwork issue he knew he would lose, but was otherwise the good person that everyone thought he was?

The only thing that doesn't fit with that is this latest info from The Advocate quoting a Daily Mail London article saying Rogers would have sleepovers with kids. Also the Jim Engster show this morning with interviews of two people who said Rogers abused them as children.

quote:

While cleared in 1993 of molesting the 13-year-old pupil, he was later accused by other parents of engaging in questionable behavior with impressionable adolescents enrolled in his dance school, according to a Nov. 23, 1995, article published in the London Daily Mail. The newspaper reported Rogers would regularly invite young pupils to ‘slumber parties’ and spend the night with them, cuddling them in their sleeping bags. He was described in the article as a “petulant Peter Pan.”

WBRZ said there was a note by his bed where he was found that said he can't live without his kids. They also said when police got there, the body was stiff, so he had been dead awhile. This makes me think possibly he shot himself, and Mathew came home and found him and then took the same gun and tried to kill himself.
Or maybe it was planned murder/suicide and Scott wanted him to do it?
The "family catastrophe" the shooter was referring to was Scott's kids being taken away and a grand jury being called to look into his previous arrest in the UK as it related to him lying on adoption papers. Attorney said Scott knew his past coming out would ruin his rep here.

I knew the 1stCo crew through a business-related endeavor and they all lived in the same house and had a weird relationship. Scott seemed to control their livelihood as well as provided their home. If Mathew was married to Kimmie it was a big secret because that was never revealed to me over 3 years. Haven't seen them in a year or two but she had another boyfriend when I knew them.

The Jim Engster podcast was up but now has been deleted. Anyone have access to it? If those allegations are true Scott was a very disturbed person.
