I think a movie version of "Five Towns" would have been better.

all argument aside, its typically difficult to get a praising review from variety. which im sure its a sever case of being on ben afflecks balls, but i think it will at least be worth watching.

"The Town"

The behind-the-camera talent Ben Affleck displayed so bracingly in "Gone Baby Gone" is confirmed, if not significantly advanced, in "The Town." Again proving a fine director of actors (this time with himself in a starring role), Affleck delivers another potent, serious-minded slice of pulp set on Boston's meanest streets, where loyalty among thieves runs thicker than blood. But while it pulses with atmosphere, this tale of grand larceny, unlikely romance and betrayal sacrifices some of "Baby's" troubling ambiguity and emotional force in pursuit of broader, more action-driven appeal. Results should bag Warners an appreciably large payday in wide release.

looks pretty good. cant wait to see it next weekend.

will get stomped that weekend by "the town" but im still going to watch it.
Dinner For Schmucks.

Carrel-Rudd > Wahlberg-Ferrel.

mark wahlberg cant play comedic roles. and "the other guys" gets bogged down after the first eva mendes scene.

and you cant blame the studio for greenlighting these projects.

Epic Movie
Opening Weekend: $18,612,544
(#1 rank, 2,801 theaters, $6,644

Meet the Spartans
Domestic Summary
Opening Weekend: $18,505,530
(#1 rank, 2,605 theaters, $7,104

Although I agree when the number one opening movie only tops out at 18.5 is a pretty pitiful weekend, theyre covering profits

if it dont make money, it dont make sense

i can't believe what i'm reading in this thread.

that movie was below average at best. another chapter in this summer's book of weakness (MINUS inception, and maybe salt)

im encouraging everyone of a slight grasp of reality to not waste your 8 bucks on this. it's entirely forced humor and wahlberg's character NEVER develops. yes, there were some funny parts but its simply because ferrel's presence and he can make any knock-knock joke sound funny. as for wahlberg, a disappointing performance.

4/10 stars. i seriously considered going to sleep during it.
