re: The future of music venues! White Oak Music Hall
Posted by Doodles92 on 8/5/15 at 5:13 pm to monsterballads
Bayou music Center is still pretty new only about 2-3 yrs old.. but doesn't hold a candle to this new venue
Up until the past 5 years the Houston music scene was pretty pathetic.. due to the issue that the mayor was targeting musicians when they came here and would bust them and shut down shows.. it's hard to do bookings in that situation.
Just recently there have been a lot more bands coming to town.. but notice they still favor Dallas over houston (which I don't understand)

The mecca of all music venues is to open in Houston, TX in the spring of 2016.. no longer are the days where bands hop over Htown on their way from nola to austin..
Introducing the White Oak Music Hall.. this venues sleek design will include a large Indoor stage with balcony viewing and an outdoor balcony that doubles as viewing for the outdoor lawn stage.. it will also have a smaller downstairs stage.. that's right, 3 stages in one venue!
White Oak Music Hall
The only catch is that Houstonians have to bid Fitzgetalds goodbye.. and after looking at the concept for the venue on the website I'm OK with that.

Syd Barrett. Even though he technically didn't die. Had he not gone crazy, im sure his crazy diamond would still be shinning.
Jay Watson (plays live keyboard with tame impala) has an album with his band GUM and it's fire... gawd damn the Aussies are talented

well I don't think bear creek was as successful as Hulaween was becoming and since its the same production group they just put all their eggs in that basket to bring you a bigger better hulaween..
crazy on you - heart
Haha no that wasn't me.. but I was standing like right behind them so was able grab one

why won't they talk to me?
elephant
be above it > jam

alter ego
eventually
oscilly
why won't you make up your mind
apocolypse dreams
encore:
feels like we only go backwards
nothing that has happened

my 3rd time seeing them.. and I must say was far better than the previous! Kevin Parker has improved his vocals and I can only imagine how amazing their next tour will be if they keep ampung up their production and performance at this rate

putting shrillex as the top act is a marketing tactic.. if you've ever been to Houston you'd know that dub and EDM are still very much thriving here.. thats where they will get their ticket sales.
the substance is in the smaller print..
and it thins the crowd for shows I'm tryin to see.. or you could go see foo fighters and drake and stand a mile away from the stage

this is such a weak lineup!
in my opinion Free Press Summer Fest lineup > ACL this year.
beside the fact that ACL is wayyy over rated and overcrowded the lineup is generic.. been there done that
with that being said FPSF could possibly take the reigns for best indie fest in Texas if they would put a freakin 18+ age limit.. hate seeing 15 year old getting carried off...
also their stage setups were pretty awesome being under the interstate with no sound overlap from other stages.. unlike ACL

honestly she just seemed fricked up. she was barely able to balance up there. and really doesn't know how to work the crowd. i was kinda dissapointed..
no doubt killed it though

dude, yes! I'd go to this
could be austin psych fest lineup
i would add syd Arthur, bright light social hour, Allah-lahs and the growl, maybe the oh sees
she's a very interesting performer.. was watching some live shows a long time ago and read that when she started her career she was so shy prefers to have her back to the audience or the venue completely dark so the audience can't see her while she sings.. also a bit of a drama queen throwing a tantrum on stage in NYC canceling the show bc of sound issues..
I get the tortured artist vibe from her
