Gavin Kilen's Extra-Inning Heroics Lift Vols To Upset Over Texas

Per SEC Sports: HOOVER, Alabama (SEC Network) -- When at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Gavin Kilen took that to the extreme to lift 8-seed Tennessee to a 7-5 upset win over 1-seed Texas in 12 innings on Thursday in a SEC Tournament quarterfinal at the Hoover Met.

So when the dramatic home run Kilen hit to seemingly put the Vols in control in the 10th inning did not lead to the desired result, Kilen blasted a two-run double in the 12th that finally did the trick.

In the top of the 10th inning, Kilen rocketed one into the right-field bullpen to give the Vols their first lead of the game, 5-4.

But it didn’t hold. Rylan Galvan led off the bottom half of the inning with a single up the middle and quickly advanced all the way to third when Tennessee pitcher Brandon Arvidson air-mailed a pickup throw attempt to first. Kimble Schuessler followed with his second run-scoring single of the game to tie it, 5-5.
