For me to visit my family it is about a $1000 difference if I were to fly us all to them out of BTR vs. MSY.
Less options, zero direct flights, very long layovers, all just so happen to be much more expensive than anything out of MSY. The extra 100 minutes of driving and $10 more/day parking is a much easier decision for me. I'm sure it's unique to BTR, because the flights out of there truly do suck for my interests.

All airlines are near the same. Pick the cheapest price and go. There's no loyalty in flying

If it is a direct flight for a short trip where you can get away with just backpacks, Spirit is totally fine. Hell, Breeze airline is also great, almost every time I fly them, our plane takes off on time if not 5-10 minutes early.
